What can I get for school staff for Christmas?

My twins have just recently started at a specialist school and are having a brilliant time. I would like to get something for the staff for Christmas to say thank you, but there are so many I don’t know what to do.

There’s their teacher, 7 TAs in the class (each child has 1:1 all the time but they all work with all the kids - I don’t even know all their names), their transport driver and PA. So 10 people.

Any ideas for something nice I could do for them, can’t even send each a card as I don’t know all the TA’s names

A hamper of chocolate that they could share out between them? Hotel chocolat had some deals on before (though not sure if they’re still running).

Might be too much effort/money but my DH is a primary teacher and he sometimes gets Christmas baubles from students (handmade or bought). We use them every year on the tree and are a nice thoughtful gift.

Otherwise something that they could share would be nice even just a tub of quality streets would brighten everyone's day. Asda were doing 2 tubs for £6 the other week not sure if they still are now.

I thought chocolate but then I thought allergies, maybe they would get loads etc. But if that’s a reasonable gift I’ll go for it.

It’s their first time in school and I am just so beyond grateful for how hard they are working at this awful time and just want to make sure they all feel appreciated! Made more challenging as the boys travel on a minibus to school so we don’t actually go there and see them.

Chocolate as a gesture is usually appreciated. A box or tub can be shared around with admin staff too.

orangejuicer · 05/12/2020 12:04

Maybe a note of thanks to go with it too?

We've organised a hamper for the staff at the nursery DS goes too - it's a real mix of things so everyone can take what they want. I've also got cards and gift vouchers for DS two key workers.

I am a teacher and the parent of a SN and 3 NT child. We always go and choose a Christmas decorations together.

As a teacher I love to receive the decorations or homemade consumables things (but with COVID, that is tricky).

Failing that, a bottle wine is always appreciated. If I don't drink it myself, I take it to a party or pass it on!

We really love it when we get a note from a parent telling us what you’ve just said. We don’t hear it as often as you’d think! My TAs love a ‘best TA’ key ring or mug or card too! X

TheChosenTwo · 05/12/2020 12:14

My favourite things from students are Christmas decorations. They can go in a box for 11.5 months of the year but when they come out again it reminds me of them. They’re useful, thoughtful and can be very inexpensive.
Other than that, I really do appreciate a card with a message, very personal and makes me feel valued. Everyone loves to feel valued in their workplace!

We're sending in a box of biscuits in the last week of term and a card for the "year x staff", and an amazon voucher to buy class supplies with. I know my DS's class teacher uses her own personal funds to buy a lot of things and even more so with hand sanitiser etc the past few months

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 05/12/2020 12:18

Biscuits, a selection of teabags and some random class supplies would make you a lot of friends at the school where I work.

sherrystrull · 05/12/2020 12:20

A note explaining all you've said here would go down very well.

Also, maybe some wrapped chocolate bars, crisps, snacks would be gratefully received, easy to grab in a rush and give the staff a boost during the day.

SinkGirl · 05/12/2020 12:36

Thanks everyone. I would normally bake something and when the boys are able would love to make things with them but not possible yet, but with COVID I guess home baked things aren’t ideal! Will buy some nice teas and chocolates etc and write a card :)

Box of biscuits? A bit more substantial than chocs for busy work days.

pastapestoparmesan · 05/12/2020 13:27

If it was me, I would far prefer a card saying what you’ve said here than any gift.

SinkGirl · 05/12/2020 14:00

I will write a card to the teacher and all the TAs as well but I don’t know lots of their names yet or much about them individually, only that they must be doing an amazing job because my boys are so happy and so excited every morning to go to school. I’ve seen some of their names on Tapestry updates but I don’t want to leave anyone out or single anyone out,

Will buy lots of yummy things and send in a hamper I think and then they can pick what they’d like.
