It's magical. All of a sudden he's reading. It's like the world is making sense to him.

Smile You can really see progress at that age can't you?

osteoadjustment · 04/12/2020 19:34

Yes. We were walking along the street earlier and he was looking at everything to check he could read it! Incredible.

I loved seeing my kids learn to read, it's incredible!

HavelockVetinari · 04/12/2020 19:38

I'm really looking forward to it!

Oh, how lovely! 🥰

I feel a bit sad now that I have no recollection of similar amazement when DS learned to read Sad I think maybe that’s because it was a bit of a struggle for him, and maybe because I was too busy with other stuff to remember. You have inspired me to watch more closely for when DC2 gets there!

My children have required... patience... Grin

It certainly took patience to get DS1's dyslexia diagnosis, 3 years of it.

The day in y1 that he jumped from band 3 to band 5 on the day that his teacher tried him with coloured overlays was a good day.

He's always loved books, they just have to be the right books.

Sounds very lovely! You should be proud and not PFB at all. I feel the same about DS learning to speak, such a proud mum moment with every new word and feels like he's becoming a proper little person.

Well... DS is actually in Y2 and it's been a bit of a journey too! I didn't know if that was turning me PFB.

He just seems have clicked with this year's teacher and she seems to be able to go over concepts in a way that he understands.

It is great, isn't it? I remember being out with dd and she said she wanted to go to a particular shop and pointed it out. I asked why and she said she liked the name and said it. I thought dh must have mentioned it but then she read all of the shop names as we walked along. I nearly cried. She has discovered a love of reading which I hope to nurture. I am really pleased as I love reading too and there are so many books I hope to share with her from my own childhood. I can't wait till ds starts.

This is a lovely post, you have every right to be proud!

That first year at school when they learn to read - it's just flipping amazing.

Lovely thread Smile My eldest is in reception and after dinner tonight wrote Christmas cards for all his friends - I obviously had to spell out the names but I was amazed how well he wrote all the letters given he couldn't write anything prior to September. Seemed so grown up
