been paying for too much car insurance cover question

i have realised that I am paying way too much for my car insurance cover. I recently switched car and it went up to 67 per month from 57 per month. I just did a quote comparison and find I can get cover for about 32 per month.

My question is (as I can't find this out online or call at this time) can I ask for a different sort of cover mid policy and could they amend this or is it worth cancelling completely and going to the other insurer.

I know my insurance co will charge me £55 to cancel and will do this as this savings would still outweigh the costs. cover is due for renewal in April.

You can switch at any time, so it's worth doing sooner rather than later for such a saving. I don't think your current insurer would be able to halve the cost of your policy mid-term, or at renewal.

Just check the policies are comparable first though, and that they include the same level of cover, service, and with the same excess etc. Have you thought about paying for the year in one go rather than monthly? It's always cheaper, and would be easier with a much lower premium.

Are you with a broker? If you're with a broker they can certainly do a new quote and see if it's any cheaper that way

You can certainly ask but I doubt they would reduce your premium. You have already agreed the price when you renewed the policy so the contract is in place.

Your best bet is to cancel your policy, pay the fee and take out a new one.

If you cancel part way through a year you’ll lose that year’s NCB.

Thanks I will cancel but will ask. It's such a pain. I still have lots of years ncb.am not with a broker.

I will consider paying yearly.esp as it would be lower.
