Can i do a creditcard chargeback?

We have flights at the weekend that we cant use because of the area we live in!
Given that jet2 are continuing to fly them - probably so they dont have to refund- can i do a chargeback on my credit card?

swapping them to anything in the future is about x4 the price!
my understanding is this is why its safer to book on credit card

I dont think so as you need to provide proof that the flights were cancelled.

I think they will most likely direct you to your travel insurance, that should be your first port of call in these circumstances.

If the flights are still flying you won’t get anything. It has to be clear that the airline breeched the t&cs of your agreement (Contract) together. I work in the disputes team of a cc company.

PS try speaking to the airline, they might swap the tickets for a Voucher.

unfortunately they wont do a voucher but only a change of dates - everything is so full and expensive - which i think is their plan.

I've just been refused a payment on travel Insurance and they told me to try credit card...haven't heard yet though

HaggisTheGreat · 02/12/2020 21:17

Why do you think it’s illegal for you to fly?

TisTheSeasonToBe · 02/12/2020 21:20

@HaggisTheGreat technically its the getting to the airport that is illegal.
the fyling is supposed to be 'exceptional circumstances' only which doesnt really include my sun holiday!

The safety in using your card is of the goods or services you pay for are not received. You don't stand a cat in hells chance of getting a credit card refund for an operating flight.

DianaT1969 · 02/12/2020 21:25

Do you want to go? Driving to the airport is hardly going to spread a trail of Covid.

I had to send proof of flight cancellation when I did a charge back on mine. I'd hazard a guess that you'd get zero from yours if the flight is still going.

clareykb · 06/12/2020 15:51

Op I've just got mine back today which surprised me but I'm very happy. Slightly different sci stop as we were supposed to go in April, they cancelled, we rebooked using voucher for October and they still ran the flight. Travel insurance said they shouldn't have let us re book at that time and given us a refund Instead and to try credit card. Anyway it appears to have worked.
