I got one of those emails from Royal Mail on Monday. It said I missed a delivery, and I actually had missed one that day, and the calling card didn't have a reference number left.
So I clicked on the email and stupidly entered the details it asked for ..

name on card
Address
Email
Phone number

I just canceled my card just Incase, but do I have to be worried about them having these details? I am so sleep deprived and stressed!

Change your passwords. Also , go on to ActionFraud website where there’s lots of advice on what to do. You can report the scam to them too. They won’t investigate though.

@Finfintytint thank you. What specifically should I change my passwords for?

If you have told your bank and cancelled your card and gave no other information, then probably nothing to worry about other than they will now have a lovely email address to sell to other scammers.

Just watch out for any phone calls that claim to be from your bank now. If anyone tells you to move any money into a "safe" account, that's a follow up to the scam.

Otherwise I think if you blocked your card and changed passwords you should be all good.

DoubleHelix79 · 02/12/2020 07:10

Not sure they can do much with these details alone but it could be part of a wider scam, for example a call from your 'bank' alerting you to a fraud and asking you to transfer your money to a 'safe' account. I'd watch your bank account like a hawk, be suspicious about any cold calls (even more then usual) and perhaps sign up to a credit monitoring agency to check for credit or mobile phone taken out in your name.

DoubleHelix79 · 02/12/2020 07:12

I think she meant name on the calling card the delivery person left, not name on a bank card

Finfintytint · 02/12/2020 07:12

It’s always prudent to change your passwords regularly anyway especially if you’ve given away info. Lots of people have insecure passwords relating to names, addresses, etc. As pp says, you’ve given them a gateway for further scam attempts.

You've done everything you can. I had a phone call from "my bank" a few days after my card went missing. I thought they were genuine but when I asked them to call me back at a more convenient time the guy started being rude. I contacted my bank on their usual number later in the day to complain and it turns out it wasn't them. These people are clever, I too am careful and fairly good at spotting them. If I hadn't have been busy that day, I have no doubt I would have fallen for it.

Thanks for your help everyone. I will change passwords and be much more aware of any thing else that comes my way.
