Anyone had a hospital bed at home?

I can't sleep! My sister is in the last stages of cancer and is having a hospital bed delivered tomorrow at home. Im worried that they wont get it into her bedroom. Its a bungalow but doors are awkward to get through etc. Does anyone know if they come apart? I need to get her out of her bed and dismantle it before they come in the morning Sad

They come in sections and the delivery drivers are used to getting them through tricky spaces so try not to worry.
I hope the bed helps your sister to be more comfortable at home x

((((HUG))))

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister xx

The ones we had were in pieces & were assembled in the room, but I don't know if they all are. I would imagine so though as a lot of homes wouldn't be able to get one in otherwise.

Big hugs fir you & your sister xx

Don’t really know about hospital beds I’m afraid but I didn’t want to read and run. I’d have thought the people who deliver it will be used to manoeuvring them around awkward spaces though?
Sorry to hear about your sister anyway - I hope you have some RL support as it must be hard on you.

They do come in sections and are built in the room please do not worry, They are normally courteous and accommodating and will come from a reputable private company. So sorry to hear about your sister. Thanks

I used to work for a company that did this; do not worry they will find a way! I hope it makes the next few weeks bearable and more comfortable. So sorry for your situation Thanks

Sorry to hear your having a tough time.
Yes they absolutely do come apart. DM also lives in an awkward bungalow and they assembled the bed in her bedroom.

I’m so sorry about your sister. I hope you get some happy moments in the next few weeks.

We cleared the route and they got it in fine.

I think you can request different types of mattresses for a hospital bed if it is uncomfortable ( I think one type did air inflated leg raises?)

Do you also have a commode or one of those frames over the loo to help balance?

Would a wheelchair help?

A ‘slip sheet’ helps carers move people that are in bed.

A ‘driver’ is an electronic box that came from the hospital to administer drugs (if there is trouble swallowing) . Note the drugs came separately so we had what we thought was everything and called the nurses to set it up but there were no drugs so we had to wait for the drugs to arrive and call the nurses again. This was quite a delay to the poor patient.

I just say this to mean talk to the nurses and try to get everything you need together just in case. The local team were amazing but it took a week sometimes to get things because it’s different departments.
