Give me your daily exercise routines, I need motivation.

I am usually a fairly active person but lately I can’t get the motivation to get of the sofa. I need motivation please.

So give me your exercise routines, what you do for how long and how it helps you. I don’t want to stay in the rut and not be able to get back out of it.

Two large dogs, that's all you need to get you off that sofa, whether you want it or not.

Also, Barrecore classes, which is maybe more realistic should you not feel inclined to get some dogs.

Pre COVID I usually do a boot camp 3 times a week which is a combo of cardio, weights, Pilates and yoga which I haven't been able to do as often although it is outdoors. DH bought me a Nintendo switch with ring fit which has been great, it's quite a good workout and really fun, combined with body resistance and hand weights it kept my fitness levels up.

You need to pick a time that works for you, then force yourself to stick to it for a while until it becomes a routine...

I set an alarm for 7 and exercise in the kitchen while the kids eat their breakfast. Then I've got it out of the way and I can get on with school run/work/house stuff. Sometimes I can't face it but I always make myself get up. I drink a big glass of water first which helps me wake up enough to exercise 😂

I used to do Joe Wickes but recently I'm a bit addicted to the 30 Day Ab Challenge App that someone on here suggested. I probably do 20-30 minutes every week day and have weekends off. Not loads but don't have time for much more and it's definitely better than nothing!

@ChardonnaysPetDragon I’d love a dog unfortunately Dd is allergic 😢

I have the time at the minute as I am off work until January. Maybe a fitness class online would be a good start. I love quite rurally so no local bootcamps that I know off.

An outdoor walk every day, about 75 minutes in the week and 2-3 hours at the weekend.

Getting out of the house and into nature is good for mental health too, which might help with the motivation.

I do the odd stretches and pilates once or twice a week, but need to do more of this.

If you're rural, you should have plenty of local footpaths to use. Look on Bing maps (OS layer) or buy the map for your local area and get walking. Or running or rucking (fast walking with a weighted backpack).

I've just discovered, thanks to my 5 year old teacher, koo koo kanga roo on YouTube. They're an ironic dance along duo. If you're like me and can't take yourself seriously doing zumba, they are so much fun to do with child (or without when they're at school 😂) and burning calories in a ludicrous way is better than not!

Carouselfish · 01/12/2020 10:47

5 year old's teacher that should read. Although...that works too.

Online classes are good, I have tried a few and it's a good way to try something different.

Try Sleek Technique, that have a few free classes on YouTube and also subscriptions, it's ballet based exercise.

I have a dog, which helps with the motivation, but I currently do a 45-60 minute walk every morning, which I do fast enough to raise my heart rate and get me a bit sweaty (part of my route is steeply uphill). As soon as I get home I do a 15 min yoga stretch.

Obviously I have to walk the dog anyway, but it takes a little bit of extra motivation to turn it into a proper yomp ratherthan the gentle wander I used to do. I find that with exercise for me, if I don't get straight into my workout gear first thing and do it in the morning, it's not going to happen. Get up, get out, do it, job done, get on MN with the rest of my day.

lazylinguist · 01/12/2020 11:23

If you're rural it seems a shame to be inside in front of a video instead of getting the double benefit of fresh air and exercise. Unless it's hammering with rain, in which case only we dog owners tend to be out!

Lyricallie · 01/12/2020 11:24

Try to do a lunchtime walk however I'm currently decorating my house and seem to burn a lot of calories stripping wall paper Grin

However gym Mon/wed/Fri been doing interval training on the treadmill and weights.

However I've just booked in for a weightlifting class for Friday! Which I'm excited about. Something a bit different!

PurpleDaisies · 01/12/2020 11:27

Daily walk if 3-5 miles.

Online HIIT class 30 mins 3x weekly.

Les mills on demand-I normally manage a couple from body balance/combat/barre/sh bam depending on what I feel like.

There’s loads online now.

I think you need a mix. It’s hard to do weights/a hard cardio class/Pilates outside!

RedTawny · 01/12/2020 11:29

I did the couch to 5k. Now I run 2 miles twice during the week and 3 miles once on the weekend. Days I'm not running I walk 3 miles

PaddyF0dder · 01/12/2020 11:30

Every day: minimum 30 minute walk

Every second day: cycle outdoors for 20 minutes or so

5 days a week: spin class, minimum 45 minutes

Randomly through the week: a 5k run, or some floor exercises.

True, although obviously you don't have to do multiple things. You can get pretty fit with just running or just lots of walking without doing any classes or weights.
