Presents for 13 year old son - in desperate need of inspiration

I really don’t know what to get my 13 year old son for Christmas (and a January birthday too). He wants “some fun things” or “a surprise” when questioned. Not very helpful.
In terms of clothes / trainers he isn’t really fashionable so I don’t know where to start, which brands are popular now, which should be avoided?
He likes Minecraft a lot, Dr Who, Star Wars, is not very sporty but is good at running, he likes interesting puzzles and games but is not practical in any way. He has shown some interest in baking over lockdown.
I would be so grateful for some inspiration!

It’s a hard age! Ideas include

a driving experience (they do driving lessons here in Kent at Bluewater, pretend road but get to drive a real car with gears).

Turing tumble looks interesting, not sure if too young for him though

Raspberry Pi

Soldering iron and circuit board sets

My son has asked for a raclette(!), he enjoys cooking when I can drag him away from his PC and the idea of cooking meat appeals. So something like that, or a pizza stone and peel for homemade pizza.

Drone

@Pickledonionsfortea have sent you a PN!

The raclette is a brilliant idea...

Among us merch?

Pickledonionsfortea · 30/11/2020 20:33

Oh yes, of course I forgot about among us.

@HasaDigaEebowai thanks for your list, there are some there worth looking into. I hadn’t thought of fluffy bedding I think he’d love it, but bearing in mind how difficult it is to get him out of bed in the morning I’m in two minds

A raclette could be fun

@HasaDigaEebowai what are escape room books?

OP posts:
HasaDigaEebowai · 30/11/2020 20:42

They're effectively puzzle books but they're designed around the concept of escape rooms. Have a look at Journal 29 which is one of the most well known ones.

Pickledonionsfortea · 30/11/2020 20:53

Book ordered. If he doesn’t like it I can think of plenty of people who will!

Sodastream for my 14yr old DS

FredtheFerret · 30/11/2020 22:54

This is brilliant! I came on to recommend this mug with an Xbox/Playstation controller as a handle.

I have now bought some Crumpet slippers for my own teenage boy...

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 30/11/2020 22:57

Sorry but those crumpet slippers look lethal for walking around in! Hello broken ankles 🤣🤣

FredtheFerret · 30/11/2020 22:57

And Journal 29...

FredtheFerret · 30/11/2020 22:59

@Cakecrumbsinmybra

Yes to lethal slippers - but they are for a teenage boy (who ate 6 CRUMPETS after school today as a 'snack' when he got in from school) I was not happy! He rarely moves far from his Xbox/bedroom when at home so I think his ankles are safe...

Honestly. They don't move that much at 15...

HerRoyalNotness · 30/11/2020 23:00

Star Wars apron and spatula, whisk etc? Along with a cookbook to keep up the baking interest

HerRoyalNotness · 30/11/2020 23:04

I’m really struggling with ideas too, but for my 13yo he has

Darth Vader art Lego
Razor Crest Lego (mandalorian)
Marzipan fruit (his request)
2 books. You are awesome and the last HP
A cymbal clanging monkey alarm clock from call of duty as he sleeps through his Alexa alarm
He’s collecting mega block halo figures so a couple of those and an alien model
A couple of rare-ish Lego Star Wars mini figures
A hooded wearable blanket as he gets really cold

StealthToddler · 30/11/2020 23:16

Baking subscription eg Honeywell Bakes - my 13 year old loves it
