I've had keyhole surgery in my knee. Been told to wear surgical stockings for at least 2 wks. Im up and walking around house now (although still sitting down a lot although been doing that anyway cos of lockdown).
What happens if I don't wear them? They doing my head in.

Worst case you probably die of a blood clot or get a stroke? Considering hospitals are a bit of a nightmare at the mo I'd wear them to avoid having to go back unnecessarily

I didn't wear mine and nothing. That being said they are to stop blood clots so take that with a pinch of salt

I had a hip replacement six weeks ago. I wasn’t told to wear them (I’m in Canada) but did have to inject myself with blood thinners everyday for four weeks.

Yea, to prevent DVTs

User0ne · 29/11/2020 20:01

Probably nothing will happen. As pp have said they are to reduce your risk of DVT. If you're up and about it's probably fine, if you're lying in bed all day it's probably not.

ScrapThatThen · 29/11/2020 20:37

They reduce the risk of a clot
Try and stick with them.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/11/2020 20:40

Blood clot on lungs or stroke. Are you taking them off before bed? I had a chap who left them on 24/7 because the dr said wear them all the time 🤨.

deffonamechange · 29/11/2020 20:54

Im keeping them on 24hrs cos that's what I thought they told me to do?

Just wear the bloody things like you've been told to by medical professionals. If you develop a DVT, pulmonary embolism, stroke, heart attack etc then you would be putting undue pressure on NHS services that are already struggling to cope with covid + winter pressures + keeping cancer and urgent services going.

Yes they are uncomfortable, yes it's a nuisance but you have them for a reason and it's not just for your benefit. Good luck with your recovery, sounds like you are getting mobile again already.

Avery7 · 29/11/2020 21:13

Oh! You've just reminded me that I was told to wear mine at home after my c-section 2 months ago. I completely forgot haha! Well I'm still alive...

Buddywoo · 29/11/2020 21:13

My neighbour took off hers after knee surgery. She developed a clot that moved to her heart and she died. Keep them on.

MrsT1405 · 29/11/2020 21:16

Just do it! It's not that awful and may well prevent a stroke. A knee replacement will really need them !
