Am I allowed to use childcare bubble if my son has to isolate?

Sorry this is probably a daft question but I can't clearly find the answer online. My son's class has been sent home for 2 weeks due to a covid contact at school. Am I allowed to use my childcare bubble (my parents) to watch him? I'm not even sure I'd do this even if allowed but I'm just exploring options. I'm a doctor in NHS so reluctant to miss work due to having to cancel clinics etc. Thankyou.

What age is your child and how would your parents feel about watching them as a contact?

PinkFondantFancy · 29/11/2020 20:30

Do you maybe have any friends that have had it before that wouldn't mind watching your kids for you? It seems such a huge shame if it means you have to cancel work? Or have your parents had it already by any chance?

Honestly, if you parents have been your bubble whilst you are working then they've probably already been in contact via you or DH via someone with covid!

Apologies - that makes no sense.

Basically it's very probable you or DP have already been in contact with a covid-positive patient whilst working.

Also, if your parents are up for it anyway, I'd go for it. The risk compared to an average week isn't really any different to be honest given that children are often asymptomatic - it could have been doing the rounds in your child's class for ages without anyone realising

WillowSummerSloth · 29/11/2020 21:22

My parents would be more than happy to have him. But I wouldn't want to increase their risk. I think we'll muddle through this week and then hopefully use my parents the week after once the risk is slightly lower. Thanks for your advice everyone.

Are they having your other children still though whilst you are both working in the NHS - because I cannot see that much extra risk is added here.

How close was he - DS for example whole year bubble went because it was a TA he had no contact with different to he was sitting by the child all week

WillowSummerSloth · 29/11/2020 21:42

We don't know who the contact was yet. They just told us to keep him at home and we'd get more info tomorrow.

How old is your DC? Is he old enough to stay away from your parents in the house?

WillowSummerSloth · 29/11/2020 22:01

Unfortunately not. He's only just 6. And he doesn't have a great attention span yet. Even TV only amuses him for about 30mins.

@BuggerationFlavouredCrisps

You’re a doctor in the NHS and you’re asking for an interpretation of Covid guidelines on Mumsnet? Bloody hell!
Doctors aren't experts on complex government guidelines! I'm often having to explain parts of the rules or guidance to my GP (and other, clinical or otherwise) colleagues, who understandably are more focused on their very busy jobs than they are on obsessively reading guidelines which are constantly changing. I expect them to keep up to date on the clinical covid stuff, but not to know any more about bubbles etc than anyone else.
