Travelling for exercise class in a other tier

MrsBlobby43 · 28/11/2020 20:55

Evening, my gym that I go to is in tier 2 and I live just inside tier 3. I'm desperately still trying to get my weight down to reduce my Covid risk. Would I be unreasonable to still attend. Part of me knows I can't attend but the other part of me thinks that me losing weight is more important. I'm torn but understand this is breaking the rules and I'm not a rule breaker!!

I would go

Africa2go · 28/11/2020 21:06

No I wouldn't go because it's a class with other people. If you were travelling into Tier 2 from Tier 3 for somethingwhere you're unlikely to come into contact with others, maybe. Not an exercise class. There are ways around this.

TriciaMcMillan · 28/11/2020 21:18

No, you are not an exception. And the choice isn't go to the gym or do nothing, exercise at home or outside like other people do.

TriciaMcMillan · 28/11/2020 21:23

And that's before we get into the benefit of exercise versus diet if weight loss is your primary focus. Please just follow the rules. Everyone has a reason they're different or should be permitted a pass for something. We need people to just do their bit.

MrsBlobby43 · 28/11/2020 21:29

I've lost over 7 stone through dieting and exercise this year tricia so I'm obviously doing something right. It was just a genuine question and I've followed all the rules so far.

The gym isn't an exercise class, just the actual gym. I'll just stick to exercising at home.

Well done, that's seriously impressive. I was simply responding to your point about going to the gym to lose weight.

TriciaMcMillan · 28/11/2020 21:38

But actually if it's not a class or group session, there's nothing stopping you going to use the facilities. I had assumed it was a class. My mistake. You have to follow tier 3 restrictions if you travel to tier 2, but using the gym equipment is permitted in all tiers, so have at it. Smile

Comefromaway · 28/11/2020 21:41

I would have no hesitation in going.

harridan50 · 28/11/2020 21:43

Go to the gym and workout for goodness sake. Gyms in tier 3 are open.
Well done on your weight loss

ceeveebee · 28/11/2020 21:43

Go

But also YABU having your username - after all that hard work you must change it!!

MrsBlobby43 · 28/11/2020 21:48

Just go. Those living on borders will be mixing between them. I live in tier 3, but very close to tier 2. Most people who live locally work in the tier 2 area so will be travelling in most days. Children will be crossing over for school and our nearest big supermarket and shopping area are all in tier 2 as well.

Africa2go · 28/11/2020 22:48

The thread is called "Travelling for exercise class in another tier". Now you're saying The gym isn't an exercise class, just the actual gym Hmm You need to be clear.

MrsBlobby43 · 28/11/2020 23:16

Sorry africa I meant exercise rather than exercise class. Just a typo.

You could sign up for Les mills on demand. I did this intending just to keep it for the two week free trial and ended up keeping it because it’s so good. Loads of great classes on there.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/11/2020 23:58

I was travelling from tier 1 to tier 3 for the DCs' swimming lessons. (Been "promoted" to tier 3 so moot point now)

Travelling to a higher tier is a hypothetically risk of potential harm to health from spread.
Being sedentary is a guarenteed harm to health.
Excercise wins.

Tier 3 doesn't automatically mean that localised case rates are high anyway. Both my neighbourhood and the swimming pool are significantly below average cases and falling rapidly. It's other parts of the counties that are higher and I don't mix with them .

ByebyeOcado · 29/11/2020 01:26

@Comefromaway

I would have no hesitation in going.
And that is why the virus keeps spreading. People think they are special and rules don’t apply to them. All the pubs, restaurants and small businesses going under, causing thousands to lose jobs and money keep lobbying the government. Their anger should be directed at selfish individuals who think they are an exception. All those shopping at Primark, The Range, and home bargains. It’s not essential, but hey - Fuck everyone else.

@MrsBlobby43

You can go for a walk in your local area. Don’t be selfish and put others at risk. You are not going to lose muscle tone in14 days. Losing weight does not make you an exception. If you had a business haemorrhaging money because of lockdown and you were set to lose your home as a result you may think twice about breaking the rules. All the while people ignore them , numbers go up, lockdown goes on, and hundreds of businesses go under. It goes a little further than will I catch/pass on a virus. There’s a bigger picture.
greenlynx · 29/11/2020 01:41

Please don’t do it, you can always do something in your area. Only essential travel is permitted from tier 3 and essential reasons are work, education or caring responsibilities.

IdblowJonSnow · 29/11/2020 01:46

If it's a gym you go to anyway then I would go.

Unless perhaps your job exposes you to covid particularly, eg, teacher or medical staff?

cabbageking · 29/11/2020 01:58

Go for a brisk walk in your own area. Use the time you would have travelled to exercise. Don't take additional risks.

Sargass0 · 29/11/2020 07:01

If you're still trying to get your weight down to reduce your Covid risk and you went to the gym this week and caught Covid - how would your risk be reduced? Doesn't make sense.

Well done on your fab weight loss- but your argument for not following the rules isn't convincing really.

Skipsurvey · 29/11/2020 07:08

if you think you are an exception you can bet 95% of people think they are also an exception in one way or another.
