Very loved, very tattered blankie - what to do with it?

I know MN will have answers to this question Smile

DD has a beloved and very tattered blanket ("blankie") It began life as one of those big white cellular bed blankets with a satin ribbon trim. Lovely. Twenty years later it is about the size of a napkin and held together in dubious looking ropes. It is the colour of, well I can't even describe it!

You would think it would be a hazard to human health but it's actually quite clean as I carefully handwash it when she's out (when she was a teenager we had a few years where she hid it before school, we always looked for it and if we found it we would take a photo of DH or I putting it in the washing machine Grinsometimes we did ransom notes and everything...

She is due to go to uni next year and (understandably) wants to take Blankie but not be shunned and ostracised by revolted housemates Grin (I have assured her lots will have similar!) so we need a solution to this...

So wisdom of MN, what shall we do with it? I thought of just sewing it inside a pillowcase/cushion case, DD thought it could go into the tummy of a teddy bear or something. DD asked me to have a think so I'm asking MN and will pass it all off as my own ideas naturally

This is a photo from the internet of a similar blanket (not THE Blankie) so you have an idea of what we are dealing with here...

Thanks in advance...

I'm 28 and I still have one. The original one got tiny and when I was on my honeymoon it blew out of my hand getting out of a taxi in Cambodia and I never saw it again. 😭😂
I bought a baby comforter thing in a similar colour and worked really hard at wearing it down into a rag like fashion and now it's just as good as the original.
Maybe try and make a spare?!!

Blimey I’m a bit blown away by the number of adults who still sleep with their blankies! I took an old teddy with me to uni, but only in a sorta symbolic way, I don’t think he actually made it on to my bed! I do still have him but I think he’s at the bottom of my kids toy box! My kids are equally as unsentimental as I am! But probably because when they were tiny they always insistent on me lying next to them rather than any particular cuddly toy or blanket!!

I'm almost 39 and I still have the remnants of what was once my cot duvet cover... it is very thin/made up of lots of stringy bits now but it still lives under my pillow & came in to hospital with me when I had each of our 3 daughters. I left it in a hotel once & made my hubby drive back to get it!

My Dd was deeply attached to her cot quilt which her great grandma had made and much more substantial than a cellular blanket. She wanted to drag it everywhere so GGM made a tiny copy of the original. It was called Take Out Blankie.
