Fitted night guard hurts and is just uncomfortable.

Hello, over my lifetime I had a few fitted night guard because I grind my teeth. My mother did and my grandfather did (no clue if it's inheritable but we all seem to do it).

Anyway, I got mine fitted yesterday and I had to take it out in the night as it hurt and with this one, I can't close my mouth but keep my mouth open as it's so thick and then naturally breathe through my mouth which I never do. I paid £500 for it and feel like this isn't right.

Has anyone ever had anything like it? Will they try to refit it or make a new one? Could they say I didn't say anything when it was fitted at the dentist so I will have to keep it as it is?

Hi, dental nurse here. Go back to the dentist to have it adjusted, there is a "bedding in" period when a new appliance is fitted. It will take some getting used to but it shouldnt be painful.

Thank you @fassnk I won't be able to go before Monday anyway, so let's see how it goes tonight and the next two nights but I do believe I will have to go back.

Good luck with it! Even tiny adjustments can make a world of difference :)

Definitely go back and ask, you've paid for a product! I had this and they just shaved a bit off one side and it made a huge difference.

Mine was nhs, but I told her straight away that it was uncomfortable when the dentist put it in, and she said that was it, and no she wouldn't be able to adjust it. I don't understand why not, because as a teen I had lots of braces and on the removable ones, my orthodontist was able to make small modifications.

I've not been able to use mine in the four years I've had it. What a waste.

@MumsDirtyTeaTowel how awful! I actually wore it all night last night and it was only slightly uncomfortable. I will call them tomorrow anyway though as there is too much pressure on one of the teeth at the front. I will let you know what my dentist says? If they can't change it, I would probably want a new one for free but let's see.

Thanks everyone x
