I can suddenly no longer tolerate my bra, have I totally lost it?

I am huge of nork (38 E). I usually wear a bra, yesterday I had to pull the car over and take it off because it was just wrong. I haven't put it on since (thank god for big jackets and big scarves). I feel A LOT better in myself weirdly... Has anyone else experienced this?

I now wear bralettes. Much much more comfy. I’m a double d. But I don’t cafe anymore about support. Got fed up with being uncomfortable all the time

jennie0412 · 27/11/2020 15:18

I hate bras, but i still wear one as sadly I'm not of an age yet that it would be accepted for me not to.

I haven't got a big chest at all so not sure why I hate them so much.

ThirstyGhost · 27/11/2020 15:33

I've got smaller boobs but I can't stand most bras now. I just wear sports ones and yoga ones. If I wear a normal wired bra I get this mad, "get it off me now!" feeling after a while - I think similar to what you're describing OP. Increasingly I can't stick wearing fitted clothing in general though. Used to all the time when I was younger. I've actually lost weight as I've got older too (so it's not that things don't fit before anyone suggests I just need bigger clothes). Don't get me started on uncomfortable shoes....

I don’t wear a bra around the house but must admit if I don’t wear one for a long time my nipples become really sore- like my T shirt chafes them. I prefer softer t shirt bras.

dubyalass · 27/11/2020 15:43

Have you been measured/measured yourself recently? I only ask as 38E is a classic M&S size and you may be in completely the wrong size bra, especially as you describe yourself as "huge of nork". For example, I am only moderate of nork (does that make sense??) but am a 34E/F. Used to be in a 38C when fitted by M&S.

I’ve been a die hard underwire wearer my whole life but ever since lockdown I’ve been wearing bralettes. I love them and don’t know how I’ll ever go back if I need something with a bit more structure

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 27/11/2020 16:50

I'm with you, OP I'm a 30E (officially measured by nork experts Wink). I always used to find underwired bras the least-worst option, because they provided lots of support, but now I find them unbearable. M&S bra tops are the way ahead - have been amazed to find they are supportive enough.

Oblomov20 · 27/11/2020 16:51

I stopped wearing a bra in March lockdown. Now I can only just bare to wear a sports bra/cropped top style one.

IndieRo · 27/11/2020 16:56

36GG and I hate wearing my boulder holder. Best part of the day is taking bra of,a lot of times in the car Grin Marks and Spencer to a really comfy non wired one. It's grand for around the house but not much support or great shape if your running around.

Ohalrightthen · 27/11/2020 16:57

@YippeeKayakOtherBuckets

Any chance you could be pregnant?
This was my thought before i even read the OP.

Same here, can’t stand bras now.
LegoPirateMonkey · 27/11/2020 17:04

Measure using the boob or bust calculator to make sure you’re in the right size and then I massively recommend Elomi bras - wide straps, support, great shape and so comfortable!

Gobbledygook20 · 27/11/2020 17:06

I know how you feel. I am size 36f and the underwire can feel uncomfortable. I think I will change over to non wired. Who ever invented bras I bet it was a man!

ScarletPower · 27/11/2020 17:10

I'm seconding Molke's.

I've spent years in uncomfortable wired bras which always dig in.

I did a lot of research looking for a comfortable wired bra and came to the conclusion I've got the wrong type of boobs*. I found Molke and haven't worn a wired bra since. They're surprisingly supportive and like someone said upthread they give a decent cleavage.

*by wrong type of boobs I found out that all the following should be taken into consideration - breast root heights, are the breasts wide set or close set, full at the bottom or full all over, gore height and all manner of stuff I knew nothing about before I set out on my impossible quest

Misandrylovescompany · 27/11/2020 17:11

On a serious note OP have you done a boob inspection recently for lumps and bumps?

I wear Sportjock crop tops these days, unless I have to go out. Much comfier.

panicovernow · 27/11/2020 17:13

I couldn't wear my bra when I had covid. Although not short of breath I was uncomfortable around my chest and ribs and wearing a bra was so uncomfortable. Previously I'd never really found bras that uncomfortable.
Do you have any other symptoms however mild?

fallfallfall · 27/11/2020 17:15

After decades of hating/wasting money on bras, I got a reduction/lift and can easily go bra less.
I should have done it 25 years earlier.
Just a thought.

SlopesOff · 27/11/2020 17:16

I have never in my entire life had a bra that was comfortable. Mainly because I have a big gap down the centre and one under each arm (well almost), but that isn't the problem.

The discomfort is always around either my ribs, I move my diaphragm and the bra shifts so I move it again to encourage the bra back in place. Often find the sides rub below my armpits too..

I need support. Soft bras don't really do that, I just end up with a flatter look and no support as the band is never right.

I rarely wear a bra, haven't done for about 15 years and now have to scoop my tits up from knee level when I need to wear one.

Apileofballyhoo · 27/11/2020 17:23

@cheeseismydownfall

Another one here that is now braless! Having unquestionably worn bras (usually underwired) for 30 years, I've just given up and it is so unbelievably comfortable. I realised I actually have permanent divots in my shoulders from the bastard things. Don't think I will ever go back (except for running etc).
My DM used to have those divots. Thanks to MN she no longer does, even though she had had them as long as I could remember. Comes from your straps supporting your breasts rather than the bra itself.
PerpendicularVincent · 27/11/2020 17:26

Most clothes are uncomfortable, constricting and itchy, and I hate bras.

I'm never happier than when I'm wearing a sports bra, big pants, leggings and a jumper Blush

I found those linen balloon dresses this year and wore them thoughout the summer, no bra. Have never been so comfortable in my life. It's a shame it is too cold for them now.
Newgirls · 27/11/2020 17:38

All a dangle 😬

AcornAutumn · 27/11/2020 17:43

What’s a balloon dress please?

The price of those Molke bras!

SlopesOff · 27/11/2020 17:51

@AcornAutumn balloon dresses are also called sack dresses. Like a normal dress on top but they balloon lower down, very roomy, cool, and comfortable and because of the way they are shaped they don't blow over your head in a gust of wind.

This kind of thing, but they vary a bit in shape, not all of them have bits hanging down (mine just have normal hems).
