Does anyone have parquet floor?

We've lived in our house for four and a half years. Shortly after we moved in we discovered we still had the original oak parquet underneath the hall carpet. We covered it back up because we had a full renovation to do so we didn't want it getting ruined by the endless dust and plaster etc. Anyway, we're finally, finally nearing the time we can uncover it and restore it. There are a few loose blocks and all around the edges some absolute heathen has nailed in carpet grippers so all the nail holes need filling in. Hopefully it will look amazing when it's all done!

What do you do about general maintenance? How do you clean yours? With a mop and bucket or some other method?

We have solid oak block parquet flooring in the hall.
I sweep it, and for cleaning it give it an occasional go with Astonish wood floor cleaner.
For general maintenance, I find WD40 applied with a cloth or duster works well. I've yet to find a non-slip polish suitable for a solid wood floor.

Most parquet is tongue and groove so a few loose blocks will be fine as long as they aren't all together; if they are you may need to lift and restick a few.

Re filling holes; does the floor need sanding? If so collect the dust and mix it with whatever floor varnish/wax you use afterwards and use to fill the holes. If not I'd be tempted to leave the holes as you'd be very luck to get a filler to match.

In terms of cleaning we used to hoover ours (moved house 4m ago) and mop very occasionally with a relatively dry mop.

I really miss our parquet floor.

We uncovered ours in lockdown, it's not finished. I use method wood cleaner on a slightly damp mop and just give it a gentle wipe over. We've had quotes to fix it and finish it, but no one actually wants such a small job (it's about 3m x 2m) so we're really struggling to find someone to restore it

We have a lot of it don’t know why but the whole estate of bungalows had it in about 3 rooms and hall when it was built late 60’s.
We have only uncovered the hall which was in excellent condition I don’t think it was ever uncovered.
The lounge floor has missing bits around the edges and I find it too cold without a carpet so it remains hidden.
I hoover the hall and just damp mop occasionally it’s not a soggy mop it’s a squeegee type mop. I don’t think a lot of water would be good for it.

We have it in the basement hall, kitchen, studio and loo. Had it refinished years ago, it's not in the best condition. It does fade badly in sunlight! Just vacuum and mop with wood cleaner.

They are tongue and groove but they were all stuck down with bitumen, the loose ones have come unstuck and they now stand proud of the rest of the floor so they do need fixing back down, one of them is right in the kitchen doorway and I imagine we'd be forever stubbing our toes on it!

We have a herringbone parquet floor on bitumen. We had it renovated when we moved in, the guys sanded and varnished it. They had to refix several blocks.

I had a waxed/oiled wood floor in the past and found it too much effort to maintain, which is why we chose varnish. I am pretty sure it was one of the Bona varnishes, can't remember which, it was 5 years ago, but it still looks fine despite the cats doing their best to wreck it.

For general upkeep we hoover it and use a slightly damp mop when necessary.
