Oversized but not jumbo mugs. That look nice. Possibly earthenware. I just really want some nice new mugs

I'm really weirdly fussy about mugs. I like them to be a decent size but not ridiculous. If they look like they could fit a baby's head in them you've gone too far. Also not a fan of the really tall ones. See picture for probably my ideal shape although Whittards did a straight up and down one a few years ago with stars on that also gets a lot of time out of the cupboard. Just to complicate things, whilst the one in the picture is probably the perfect shape and size I don't really like the lace effect or colour at all, I'd much rather have some cool glazes or interesting patterns or something.

It shouldn't be this hard to find my perfect mug but the search goes on. Can anyone help? I'm going to try and treat myself for Christmas.

I've got a Le Creseut one which is almost perfect if it wasn't for the fact that it's just a tiny bit too short. And I've checked in Tk Maxx and Dunelm as they seem to be the usual suspects for excellent mugs but nothing so far (or maybe just very limited online). I haven't yet braved Etsy because I'm sure there'll be pages upon pages to trawl through but I am prepared to such is my need

@Paddingtonthebear

I like these from Royal Doulton, coffee mug on left normal mug on right
I have those mugs, the size on the right of the picture. They are lovely to drink tea out of.

God you're all magnificent! What a selection! Thank you! I never realised that Royal Doulton did them in that size, I always thought they were nice but minuscule. Whole new mug worlds opening up to me now!

Thanks so much!

Bit late to the discussion but I always, always recommend Iittala Taika mugs. They're 400ml (14oz). They're not china but fine enough to drink tea out of, but also chunky enough for coffee.

They're not cheap (usually around £18-20) but I've had one of mine for over 10 years and it honestly still looks brand new (I hate it when mugs get spoon marks on the inside). So definitely worth the money!

Taika (just noticed they have Black Friday deals!)

Denby...always.

Highland Stoneware are not cheap but they have 1-pint mugs and some lovely patterns/glazes

Pinnacular · 28/11/2020 12:18

After getting some Cath Kidston mugs many years ago I now only buy the Stanley/Churchill style mugs. They're the best on all fronts for me - weight, size, handle, 'chunk', how tea brews in the mug, stability, cuppability when holding Grin

Google Churchill mugs and there are lots of designs eg www.joyceandjoan.co.uk/collections/Churchill-China

Carpetflowers · 28/11/2020 12:21

Another vote for Cath Kidston Stanley mugs - I wasn’t fussy about mugs until I got one and realised how lovely it is to drink form the perfect mug, I now now have many!

[quote autumnboys]I am coveting the mugs that Loaf make.

I love those mugs too!

Pinnacular · 28/11/2020 12:25

The Dunoon nevis look great too, I'm going to add them to my list next time I need mugs. That style seems to clean better in the dishwasher, a bonus.

MollyBloomYes · 29/11/2020 02:16

Ooooh even more to lust after thank you!

Tell you what, I could get lost in that Nordic Neat website. So many lovely things, I'm quite taking leave of my senses. Take this for example. It has no handle. It would be uncomfortable to hold, it's expensive and impractical. But somehow...I feel like I need it. Look at the bobbly cup

And it comes in different colours

Everyone needs a bobbly cup in their life. Could use as a toothbrush mug..... :-)

MollyBloomYes · 29/11/2020 22:36

Oh don't enable me!

It totally could though

I like these ones from made.com but I don't know if they are oversized. The glaze is rather lovely.

DownWhichOfLate · 29/11/2020 22:51

@BringMeTea - they look great and have ordered some!

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 29/11/2020 22:51

Nordic Nest is great - one of my favourite retailers.

Skandium also has a good selection of Scandi products.

Emma Bridgewater might suit, if you like that sort of thing.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 29/11/2020 22:56

Emma Bridgewater has hundreds of different designs so I’m sure something would suit.

BringMeTea · 29/11/2020 22:59

DownWhichOfLate Elbow? I have a couple of their Datia mugs. Pleasing to look at.

Epictantrum · 29/11/2020 23:08

Oliver Bonas have some lovely large mugs.
