DH has worked for the company for years. He often works into the evenings and weekends, and just says it comes with the job, because he's salaried.
10 years ago they had a 10% pay cut, and since then, there have been no bonuses, and he hasn't had any pay reinstated or a pay rise. His field is exceptionally competitive, and he's wfh for many years, so sees that as enough of a perk to not even look for another job - although obviously this year has made finding another position even less likely. However, since the pandemic, their work has increased, and despite taking on another two freelancers, DH has been even busier. Thinking that things would quieten down over Christmas as they normally do, and not having been able to take all of his holiday this year, he booked to have the remainder of his holiday just before Christmas.
They approved, then last week they cancelled it, saying they were too busy. I was cross about it, but we accepted that being lucky enough that DH still has a job, we just sucked it up. However, today we found out that they're not keeping on the two freelancers. So they're happy for him to not have his legal allowance of holiday - they have said he can have it next year on top of his normal holiday leave, but we both feel that they're just taking the piss. Surely they have an obligation to let him have his full holiday leave and it's their responsibility to ensure that there is cover, even if that means keeping the freelancers on? Or AWBU?
