As per the title. I'd love to hear about what you do for a living if you enjoy it.

I'm at a loss. I hate my current profession/career. I've tried various companies and done various part time hours to see if I feel differently but I don't.

I'd really like to do something that is more fulfilling and rewarding. I volunteer as a peer support worker and love that. So I think I need something more focused on people. I've thought of teaching but I feel I'd be jumping from one profession with problems to another. I was all set to volunteer at a school to explore the idea further but then covid. Thought of training as a counsellor but jobs seems to be difficult to come by in my area. So I need your help mumsnetters! Thanks Smile

Have you thought about working as a learning mentor as part of the schools pastoral support?

Sorry I can’t be of any help OP, I’m in a very similar situation though and would love to hear about what other people do.

I left uni 7 years ago and really regret the career path I’ve followed. It’s so unfulfilling (private sector, ecommerce). Similar to you, I really like the idea of moving into counselling or psychology but it would require lots of retraining that I just can’t afford.

I hadn't actually considered that. I'm based in Scotland and I'm not sure how the system works here. I've heard lots of mention of it on the boards here. I will look into it! Thank you for the suggestion.

Thanks. I'm sorry to hear you're in the same position. It does help to know I'm not alone though. For me my priorities have completely changed since I trained and started my career. I used to be really ambitious and want to have a high flying career. now I want something i enjoy/ find fulfilling and that fits in with family life and so I'm not so stressed all the time.

@Noideanewcareer I feel exactly the same! When I first started out I was really ambitious and money oriented, and the further I’ve got in my career, the more I’m realising it’s just not for me at all.

I am thinking of trying to find a similar role in the charity or public sector, where I can hopefully feel like I’m making a bit more of a difference without needing to retrain completely.
