Mastitis

Posting here for traffic.

What are peoples experiences of mastitis and any tips to help?

10 months in and I've had a few blocked ducts but this feels different, it is so so so painful when feeding and aches and stings when not feeding too. There is a small lump I can feel but no obvious blockage. There is no redness or streaks but I feel pretty awful. I barely want to move let alone feed. DS is not that interested in day feeding anyway so I'm not sure he will be much help. It hasn't cleared overnight which is when I can usually sort out a blocked duct by feeding and massage.

Any tips to help, or should I just phone the dr (not that they have been much help with blocked ducts, or thrush when DS what tiny).

Mastitis can turn nasty really quickly; if you’re feeling fluey call the go ASAP.
A warm shower directed on the breast can help. Massage the lump with your fingertips, moving towards the nipple. Sometimes a wide-toothed soapy comb can be used to massage the lump if it’s not to painful. Keep expressing as much as you can and remember it’s a good thing if you see green gunk coming out because then it’s not inside your breast any more. Good luck

I've needed antibiotics to clear mastitis every time I've had it, I feel like I have flu. I'd call docs as soon as possible.
I used to get in the bath and keep the hose attachment on the sore part as hot as possible (plug out) and then just feed or pump all day.

please get seen and get antibiotics.
I had mastitis, ignored it and developed an abscess. Very painful, and put an end to what had been successful feeding.

Dr was actually great, prescribed antibiotics straight away and I've just taken my first dose. Pharmacist was telling me I'd have to wait three days for them to process it, thankfully the other lady was a bit less stroppy and a bit more understanding of my situation and gave it to me. Even the dr said take them straight away as you can deteriorate quickly.

I'm going to dose up on ibuprofen and paracetamol and give him a big nap time feed. The one this morning was toe curling and he was looking at me breathing heavily and gritting my teeth like I was mad.
