Does anyone have a stupid hip like mine?

There’s probably a medical name for it. I’ve been having this issue for 20 years now, since I was about 12. My mother was of the “you’ll be fine, here’s some paracetamol” school of parenting so I’ve never had it investigated but I’m starting to think maybe I should. Don’t want to waste GP time though if all they can do is prescribe pain relief that I can buy myself.

My left hip goes “out” sideways and tilts my top half over to the right. It’s very painful. Like an excruciating nip. There’s no warning for when it’s going to happen. It’s just goes. It happened today and I’m currently in bed being propped up on my side by a million pillows. I can’t lie on my front or back. I can walk around with it, very slowly all crooked. But if I sit or lie down I’m stuck and need help to get up or turn over. I apply ibuprofen gel, take ibuprofen tablets and use hot water bottles for pain relief which take the edge off but it’s still very sore. it always takes about 3 days before it’s back to normal again.

Does anyone have any magic remedies for this sort of thing? Any tricks I can do to speed up the process of returning to normal? Or just kill the pain until it does? And should I bother the GP with it? In all likelihood I won’t get an appointment while it’s actually happening as it takes at least a week for an appointment.

Have you seen an osteopath?

They can be very helpful for things like that.

And maybe a physio to help you figure out some exercises to help strengthen it so it happens less in future

That sounds like a back muscle spasm to me. I occasionally get them after I slipped a disc in my back. Definitely worth chatting to your GP at some point for better pain relief and muscle relaxants for when it happens.

Google 'secondary scoliosis back muscle spasm' and see if that reflects what you are e
