Waterproof gloves not mittens for a two year old?

Can anyone suggest any? Most of what I can find are mittens or wool. Neither any use....

Why do you need gloves? Mittens are warmer and far, far easier to get on a 2 year old!

Good question - for outside play at nursery and at home, picking up toys etc. I'd thought mittens would be too clumsy?

Not sure you can get gloves for a two year old-wouldn’t they be really fiddly?
My DS had some fantastic mittens from Gap which had gripper pads on them. Not sure they were waterproof though.

DD1 had waterproof mittens from Decathlon that had grippy bits.

I bought him gloves this year and the smallest size they had was 4-6.

Waterproofing tends to make the fingers very bulky and would render the developing fine motor skills of a 2 year old pointless I reckon.

There's a reason they have mittens as they're just not developed enough to manage to operate fingers 'through' material I think.

EmilySpinach · 25/11/2020 20:17

Why waterproof?

I favour the fingerless gloves with a flip-up mitten top.

H&M do some aged 2-4, but I'd go with waterproof mittens, I think.

My 3 year old has waterproof mittens from mountain warehouse and he manages playing outside just fine

Our DSs nursery insists on gloves rather than mittens for forest school, as pp said it's about them being able to play and use toys and tools properly. He has several pairs of ski gloves that work well.

Waterproof because everything outside in winter is damp and soggy mittens would defeat the point?

I may have overthought this. Perhaps mittens will be ok, but I'd still be keen on waterproof ones.
