Worried about dd4s weight

Dd turned 4 in July. Me and her dad are big, I’m 5ft10 and he’s 6ft2.

She 3ft8 and weighs 3stone10 🙈

She’s so active though. She never ever sits still and I actually thought she had lost weight since starting school but scales say no.

She doesn’t eat junk food, and actually she doesn’t eat much. She stopped snacking since she’s started school and has a jacket potato for lunch most days (she’s dairy free). Tea time is mostly things like beef stew, fish pie etc home made and she doesn’t eat much of it.

She has 4 Oreos as a treat once a week (shares a pack with siblings).

No idea what else to do!

She takes a fruit baby pouch for snack at school and soya milk.

Breakfast is normally wheatabix or porridge with soya milk.

She looks absolutely fine to me Smile

She weights almost exactly what one of mine did at that age (mine was slightly heavier!).
Since then (she’s now 5.5) she has grown upwards but not outwards and is very tall and skinny. By the time of the reception height/weight check she was in the normal range.
It always baffled us a bit as she has a sister only 18 months older who is tiny... 25th centile for height and 9th for weight. They are fed the same and do the same activities.
DD2 is now taller than DD1.

She sounds and looks a tall strong girl, that's all. My best friends eldest was like this, and she was concerned about her weight at this age. She's now aged 23 and almost 6ft and not chubby at all.

She looks fine to me.

She looks ok to me, she’s young yet, I wouldn’t worry too much because she has a healthy diet.

Caspianberg · 25/11/2020 10:18

I’m sure I read somewhere that small children shouldn’t really loose weight, they might just not gain for a while. Due to sometimes gaining weight before growth spurt.

So as long as she is similar to what she is now, and she looks healthy enough to me then she is probably just where she should be. You know whether her diet is good or not so if she isn’t on junk or huge portions I would just carry on. She will probably grow again height wise in the next 6 months

Aw she looks absolutely fine. Stop worrying 😊

She doesn’t look overweight at all. My DD is pretty tall ( tallest girl in her class) and she’s quite strong rather than dainty. At 4 she had a belly that curved outwards but otherwise fit and active. I have never weighed her and we don’t talk about weight or dieting. She’s now 8 and despite packing on some weight in lockdown 1 she has leaned out considerably. Flat tummy and ribs that are visible. Don’t get worked up about it she’s still quite little.

toptreeroots1 · 25/11/2020 10:41

She looks fine :)

Keyperfect · 25/11/2020 10:43

She looks perfect for her age. Lots of them still have a babyish "softness" at that age. My DD was very similar at 4 and she is very slender now. Her diet sounds fine.

welshweasel · 25/11/2020 10:45

Perhaps swap the fruit pouch for actual fruit and the soya milk for water (it’s really sugary). And lots of walks and outdoor play on weekends

pastandpresent · 25/11/2020 11:22

I don't get it. Are you worrying that she is underweight? She looks totally fine to me, slightly on a slimmer side.
