Is a nut allergy considered a "medical need" for school /nursery admission

Hi all. The nursery and school we are thinking of sending our dc to have listed "medical /social need" as part their admission criteria. Would like to know from those with experience if having a nut allergy could count as a medical need (i.e. going to a nursery or school as close to home as possible in case of a reaction)? We are still on a waiting list for the allergy clinic so don't know the full extent of the nut allergy.

I think it's if a child is considered to have an exceptional medical need - rather than just any medical need - and the parent is arguing that this specific school (rather than any other) would be the best to meet their needs. It would need to be backed up by medical reports etc

Nut allergy - although serious - isn't an exceptional medical need, and doesn't affect your child's ability to access education.

It is worth finding out what the nursery / schools policy would be on keeping children with allergies safe though, ie at meal times / on school trips. Do they have a sensible medication policy in place. Do they know how to put a plan in place to support your child with a reaction - first aid, hospital etc.
