Reducing childs dairy consumption, suggestions please.

It's been suggested that I reduce dc2 dairy consumption, to see if it eases his very windy rather explosive stomach. He has a lot of loose poops, very windy when he goes. Occasional tummy ache just before. I'm happy to try this out in the hope that it works.

He's not ill with it. It's just not very pleasant and there no chance if him learning to wipe his own bum the way it is.

He has cereal with milk most mornings.
Occasionally will have milk to drink.
A Greek yogurt most days, or other form of yogurt. Often a fromage frais pouch if at childcare.

I had cereal with almond milk this morning and think I could get that past him.

Any other palatable suggestions for milk and yogurt replacements?

He does eat cheese but not huge quantities.

Thank you.

My dd has CMPA and oatly whole milk is a good replacement as a drink and in porridge and cereal.
Coconut Collaborative do good alternatives in terms of yogurts and desserts.

My dc have cmpa. Tesco does good fromage fraise in their free from range. Or alpro vanilla or coconut are nice. I believe soya milk isn't recommended as much as oat for boys not sure why though.

I'm not sure that alternative cheeses would go down as well if you know what real cheese tastes like. Mine have never had cheese so they like the garlic fake cheese spread from asda or Sainsbury's. Or vitolite fake cheddar.

Butter is easy to swap as most of the flora range is dairy free

As a PP suggested, Toddler Diarrhoea is quite common, they grow out of it.
As long as they are growing and thriving I would wait a little before doing an elimination diet ( if true CMPA or Coeliac, you really need to eliminate these foods not cut down on them, though if having a blood test for Coeliac they need to have been eating gluten for minimum 6 weeks before b/t)

My son started like this age 3 after stopping breastfeeding. He does have acid reflux as well so has omeprazole for that which helps. But he is mostly dairy free. We use oat milk and he has it with cereal or nesquik (these are dairy free and have added vitamins)
We use the Flora spreads, they are all vegan I think but the buttery one definitely is.
Do not even try cheese substitutes unless he likes the taste of damp sweaty socks. Bourbon biscuits and Oreos are dairy free. The darker the chocolate the less milk it has in it. If I make a pizza I use just a sprinkle of cheese, cheese doesn't seem to upset my ds stomach as much as actual milk.
Oat milk wise, we find Oatly the best.

The pp that mentioned soya not recommend for boys, I think it's because it can affect their fertility if too much is consumed.

Buy lactose-free milk, yogurt and cheese
he might be slightly lactose intolerant but not fully allergic to milk. Milk is good for children, worth trying to keep it, but reduce lactose

I have 2 children who are Dairy intolerance and they both present like this. One also has a gluten intolerance that presents with tummy cramps , swelling and the need to go to the toilet quickly. Both have been tested for coeliac. One likes coconut milk and the other likes oat milk so I would again try them all with your child and see what they like. They prefer the Violife cheese and the Applewood smoked cheddar. Just be careful about calcium as it’s easy to get deficient when you cut out dairy. Most things can be adapted so it’s not as hard as you think.

@EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide as I posted to a pp they have changed flora buttery and it is no longer vegan /dairy free. I wrote to them about how bad it is they have readded dairy with very little change of packaging but they never respondedAngry. So I will keep telling people in the how it avoids someone getting sick.

*hope

@BrokenBrit that is absolutely disgusting! It is a very recent change to the recipe then, I can't believe they'd be so negligent because I clearly remember it having the vegan logo on! Thanks for letting me know 👍🏻
