*Hello Friend,

My client Mr. Chen Shui-Bian has presented a subtle offer that will need the help of a partner like you to complete successfully. Mr. Chen Shui-Bian is in a difficult situation and he must immediately relocate certain sums of money out

and this must be done in such a way that it must not be tied to Mr. Chen.

The money is currently deposited in the name of an existing Investment entity. Your role will be to:
[1]. Act as the original beneficiary of the funds.
[2]. Receive the funds into a business / private bank account.
[3]. Invest / Manage the funds outside of Turkey.
[4]. Value of funds: 45 Million US Dollars.

Everything will be done legally to ensure the rights to the funds are transferred to you. If you agree to partner with Mr. Chen in this partnership business proposal he will compensate you with 30 percent of the total sum.

Should you prefer I re-contact you with more express facts, you can send me your:

[1] Full Names:
[2] Full personal contact address
[3] Telephone Numbers (mobile and office numbers)
[4] Scan copy of your valid ID
[5] Occupation

Sincerely,
Allyson Carlile*

Sounds legit right Grin
I've asked "Allyson" why "Mr Chen" needs my help when they don't know who I am, and how they got my email address. Let's see what they reply, how exciting.

I guess Mr Chen found someone else willing to help him, I haven't heard back from them.

Are you sure? It's a very subtle offer...

Why on earth did you reply?!

I usually get a Nigerian prince wanting to sink multi millions into Escrow. a Chinese man in turkey is rather specific!

I replied because it sounded ridiculous and I was bored - I blame the pandemic!

If anyone has $45M going spare, I'd be happy to receive it. Wink

nemeton · 26/11/2020 14:51

Absolutely @haircutsRus I just need your name, address, DoB and bank details please...

I've had a few of the "windows" ones it's quite amusing when they have a really heavily accented voice and say their name is Gloria, then they forget who they are, because when you say "Sounds great Gloria, please tell me more" ... They ask you who Gloria is 🤣

Best one i ever got was an actual letter( not email) saying my uncle had died while climbing a mountain in Nepal( seriously) and as his only living relative had left me 5 million quid in his will. If I send 1000 pound to this Chinese law firm they would release the money. The funny thing was they said my uncles name was Mr Richard Redannie. As Redannie was my married name there was no bloody chance my uncle woukd be called that ! Gave us a good laugh though !

FatCatThinCat · 26/11/2020 15:33

I've had one from Dr Kenneth J Morrison who is a financial auditor for the UN. He's noticed that I haven't had my United Nations allocated funds released to me yet. He's going to sort it for. Totally legit. Hmm

GU24Mum · 26/11/2020 15:36

I was once sent a "Money Laundry" certificate from someone to prove that the transaction was definite genuine...........

FatCatThinCat · 26/11/2020 15:38

I also got one from the DVLA yesterday saying that my car tax hadn't been paid and I was now driving illegally on the UK roads. I need to make payment immediately to avoid being pulled over and arrested. I'm very worried about it. Apart from the fact that my email name isn't my own. And I don't own a car. And I haven't been in the UK for almost 10 years. Grin

FatCatThinCat · 26/11/2020 15:40

Forgot to include, if they arrest the one named in the email, as per the email address, they'll be arresting my cat. But they'd have to dig him up out the garden first.

anniegun · 26/11/2020 15:44

Tim Harford (economist) wrote a piece explaining these scams had to be very easy to spot so they only got the really gullible through to the next stage. Once they engage one-one it costs them time (and hence money). So they only aim to get the most vulnerable people to respond (and sadly some do).

That's a long way of saying "money laundering".

Tell you what, if I just tell you the location of the park bench, you can leave the suitcases behind it tomorrow morning, is that ok? I'll be watching from a nearby tree car.

"A Subtle Offer" sounds like an Agatha Christie novel!
