Tell me about your bath towels (where did you get them, what colour...everything)

We have a very plain white bathroom. Everything is white aside from the taps and the floor tiles (dove grey).

Our towels are kept in an open fronted unit, and though I'd love pure white ones, I'm not sure I could keep them as bright as I'd like.

We currently have equal number dark turquoise and dusky rose towels - which I'm getting bored of looking at and are looking increasingly tatty.

I'd like a full set (4 bath sheets, 4 hand towels, and bathmat) in the same colour. I would like something that is soft and sumptuous (not that I'll use them, I use a crispy 10 year old hammam towel, but that's another story).

Something that'll look new, smart, and bring some muted colour to the bathroom (nothing too bright, but maybe a peach or apricot colour).

If you love your towels I'd love to hear about them.

We all have extra large bath sheets.
Mine is turquoise.
DS1s is lime green.
DS2s is a sort of Watermeloney coraley colour.

The bath mat is a green one from IKEA. The hand towels are random old ones in various shades of everything.

I got them online somewhere, JD Williams i think. Planning to paint the bathroom white with colourful accessories. The towels have a rack over the door where they are supposed to live.

I could be quite tempted by a coral or watermelon colour... I do want them all to be the same colour (as I'm a bit of a neat freak and it pleases me on some level when things are a bit matchy-matchy).

Something that I don't worry about make-up, blood, or grot getting on (I will wash them frequently, I promise).

DC have dark blue ones. DP and I have lime green ones. I recently bought a dark red one so my mum could have a different colour when she's visiting.
Green and red came from John Lewis and I have matching bath mat and flannels.
Not sure where the blue ones came from, I think they were Christmas presents from 15 years ago when we were getting household stuff for Christmas to replace stuff taken to uni, but have lasted well.

Would you consider something with a pattern?

I got some nice ones from Sainsburys Home a while ago that are white, grey and yellow/mustard geometric pattern. They look quite smart and are really good quality. Cant find them online to post a link but if other sainsburys ones are of equal quality I'd recommend.

Purple Egyptian cotton from Dunelm. Love the brightness they bring to my cream bathroom.

gretagreengrapes · 23/11/2020 22:16

Another vote for Egyptian cotton from Dunelm. I've had them 10 years and I'm only just thinking it's time to replace them!

Houseplantmad · 23/11/2020 22:35

Another vote for Sainsbury's towels here. DH has dark berry and I have a dark rose pink. They are such good quality and wash so well.

MyNameForToday1980 · 23/11/2020 23:24

Thanks all, I'll take a look at Dunelm and Sainbury's - I had toyed with the idea of a pattern @Msfoxy17 but I don't want to get bored of it (or anything too eye jangling).

Our current ones: the teal/turquoise ones are from John Lewis, the pink are from BHS (they are the fluffier/smarter of the two sets).

I have no idea how old the BHS ones are, the John Lewis ones are probably only 5 years old, but they've faded a fair bit, and are just looking a bit dog-eared. We won't throw them out or anything horribly wasteful, we'll use them for various things (paddling pool, etc. eventually ripping them into dusters when their time comes).

Mine are a mixture of a grey set and a lovely navy with blush pink pattern from John Lewis. Loved them at first and now I hate them and wish I had a nice blush pink or oreganos forest green set. I’m actually disappointed with the John Lewis set, they’ve faded fast, started to fray in areas and are generally grubby looking now and it only been just over a year. I enjoy Tesco and Sainsburys towel, they wash wel and keep their colour. I also like Sainsburys for bath mats but also next and b&m have some great ones.

RumJerrySailorRum · 24/11/2020 00:52

I've got some pale blue Hobbs ones.

Some green Christy ones and some dark grey Christy ones.

They are all over 10 years old and going strong.

None of them are fluffy tho, as I prefer them 'scratchy' as i think they dry you better.

I was actually going to treat us to new towels this year, but Covid put it to the back of my mind, this has reminded me!

Toilenstripes · 24/11/2020 01:02

I have some orange animal print towels from Anthropologie. We had our bathroom redone in January and it was so beige I felt like it needed fun colour. The towels are holding up really well.

GERTgert06 · 24/11/2020 09:36

Another vote for Dunelm's Egyptian cotton towels. Mine are turquoise blue, bringing colour into an all white bathroom. The 12 year old ones have faded a bit, but the 6 year old ones are still like new.

VenusClapTrap · 24/11/2020 09:41

I’ve had plain white towels for years and years, so when we redid the kids’ bathroom this year I went for something a bit more exciting. They are probably in your ‘eye jangly’ category Grin (when Dh saw both the wall colour I’d chosen and the towels I’d bought, he was a bit WTF). I love them. They make me feel cheerful.

White John Lewis towels. I'm as slovenly as it comes with laundry, but the towels stay brilliant white as they can be hot washed with Daz and Napisan

RustyBear · 24/11/2020 09:48

I have some lovely towels from Dunelm and I'm planning to get more when we get a new bathroom.

If you like coral, how about these:

Snooper22 · 24/11/2020 09:52

I had some lovely charcoal ones until DD bleached them all with acnecide now they are grey with orange patches 🙄

crochetmonkey74 · 24/11/2020 10:12

Ours are dark sage green and dark grey- bathroom theme is botanic with plants and hammered copper accessories- looks ace! Our towels were form Dunelm and very soft

PoppyOppy · 24/11/2020 10:18

Asda white bath sheets. Wash up lovely, very absorbent and are still pristine white after 4 years.

FannysSteadiedBuffs · 24/11/2020 10:28

We all have different coloured bath sheets from John Lewis - we all chose our own colour.

However, I got some white hand towels from Costco about a year ago and they are bombproof - still look brand new, still soft, still bright white. Washing them with the JL white hand towels that are 1-2 years older really shows the lower quality of the more expensive JL ones.

allmycats · 24/11/2020 16:58

Costco white towels are good quality and a fair price. My white ones are at least 5 years old and still look good.

EmmaStone · 24/11/2020 17:11

White towels here, years old from JL (I think they may have been Supima Cotton, not sure if they still do them?). They're now really tatty and fraying at the edges, plus I wash my hair with a colour depositer a couple of times a week, and it's started to stain them, but otherwise, they've stayed veyr white.

Used to have grey towels, before that navy blue (seriously, we're talking 25 years ago for the blue ones!), all JL or M&S, and good quality.

Need to replace my white ones, planning to do so in the Jan sales, like white, but don't want to stain with my purple shampoo, nervous of colour in case get stained with bleach (as happened to the grey & navy).

Oh and bath mats are nobbly-bobbly white ones from Ikea, much prefer them to the ones we had before from JL, that would just get a bit scrunched up on the floor.

RandomMess · 24/11/2020 17:13

I always get colourful narrow striped ones because they hide the dirt and toothpaste marks better...

Sainsbury have some at the moment.

We actually each have our own bath sheet. Hand towels get changed most days.

MrsT1405 · 24/11/2020 18:20

I've just bought some IKEA ones. Dark green and dove grey to go with my bright yellow ones. New bathroon grey znd granite.

Billericaydicky · 24/11/2020 18:28

I've got white John Lewis, hand, bath towels and Matt, easy to keep white with ariel and washed at 60 degrees. Some towels aren't washable at 60 degrees.
