Help me decide whether to take this job

I've been in same job 9 years, I love the company I work for (it's a charity) and enjoy the job I do but it can get a little tedious. I registered with a company I would absolutely love to work for, completely different to what I do now but the type of work I'd be doing is similar. The new company aren't a charity but they are a not for profit company. I registered 5 years ago and this is first time a job has come up. I've had a zoom interview and have been offered the job.

The only problem is, its seasonal work. Feb half term to October half term. So for 3 months they aren't open. There is the option to do other work during off season but its very physical and I'm in a wheelchair so I wouldn't be able to do much. I've spoken to the company and they said its fine, if you cant/dont want to work off season it doesn't affect your job during season.

Sorry I'm rambling now.

The pay is more so, if I accept the job, I would put away the extra money to use during the off season... but would need to find other work during those months. I have a few potential ideas to make money from home.

What would you do?

Keep current job or take new job?

Absolutely take the new job! It sounds brilliant.

Would you be able to survive if you didn’t find another job for those three months of the year? I would feel really stressed having that hanging over my head tbh

Mixedupworld · 23/11/2020 19:46

Yes, I would as I have savings.

Go for it.
May be a silly question but could you be kept on as a bank worker at your current job?
Excuse me if this is a ridiculous question.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/11/2020 19:53

If dipping into savings to cover the winter months I would say you can’t afford to take it sorry

Palavah · 23/11/2020 19:59

These are questions to consider rather than reasons not to accept:

Given that it's seasonal, is it more take-home pay or is that just the full time equivalent?

What happens if you need to book time off during the season eg for a funeral, or childcare?

I wouldn’t want to change job in the current economic situation. If you are made redundant from a new job your refundancy will be peanuts compared to if you are made redundant fro a job you’ve been in 9 years.

grassisjeweled · 23/11/2020 20:04

Why are the closed for 3 months of the year?

TBH, 'I've spoken to the company and they said its fine, if you cant/don't want to work off season it doesn't affect your job during season' sounds a bit unlikely and like something they'd say to persuade someone to take a job?

It's an outward bound type place for people with disabilities to enjoy the great outdoors. My job would be to take bookings, update social media, promote the company etc. All desk based. The winter work is maintenance type work which as a wheelchair user night not be possible for me.
