I've been offered an interview but I can't attend 😔

As its in working hours. I work 9am until 3pm term time so I'm not allowed time off due to ratios, even though I'm on a zero hour contract which one of the reasons I want to leave 😔. I don't want to call in sick and lie. My interview time is at 2.30 and via zoom I just don't know what I should I do? They have sent an email so should I reply by email or ring to say I can't attend or ask to change the time.

Try and change the time and tell the new job that you don't want to let your manager down. They should take it as that you are committed and reliable which is a good sign. Failing that, emergency doctors appointment is always a good excuse.

Yes they've changed the time 😊. Feeling excited and nervous now 😬 especially as I do love my current job it's just the company and the way they treat staff that is my issue 😔. Zero hours is fine when it works both ways but I've never been able to take time off unless they can cover it or I have to write to ask for permission. I've recently asked to reduce my hours but they won't so so it's sadly time to leave 😢. Thank you everyone!!

It strikes me that your employer is taking the p**s. Zero hours contract so that they’re not obliged to offer you work but you can’t reduce your hours. Cake and eat it!

This is exactly the problem with zero hours contracts. All this waffle about the employee can choose the hours to fit their lifestyle is bollocks. The employer has all the power, including the power to remove hours totally, should they wish to punish the employee for being so uppity as to ask a question. They should be illegal.
