A long sleeved t-shirt, white but with black sleeves. Does it go in the dark or the white wash Confused

In a mixed colours with a colour catcher?

Masssivefuckup · 23/11/2020 08:44

Leave it in the dirty washing basket for weeks because you have no idea, then forget you own it. speaking from personal experience

bellagogosdead · 23/11/2020 08:49

Ds has loads of these; colour catcher is the answer, I like the reusable ones from Dr beckmann.

Unfortunately it's DS's new favourite shirt and he won't forget about it!

mixed colours does that mean dark?
I separate into
white (anything white, pale and pastelly)
Orange, red, pink, purple
Darks - black, grey, dark blue, dark green

I never buy them because of this dilemma and it annoys me when people buy as presents.
Hand wash, rinse and spin in machine after leaving at bottom of washing basket for weeks.

InvisibleToEveryone · 23/11/2020 08:58

Quick wash with something white...see what happens

This is what I do too.

This massively confuses me and I now avoid buying items that are both black and white.

TheClitterati · 23/11/2020 09:07

I'd wash it with all my black and white striped tops- with a colour catcher

jomaIone · 23/11/2020 09:08

If the black is going to run, it'll run onto the white anyway, so I would put it in on it's own for the first wash to see how colour fast it is. That way, if it does run it only ruins one top. Then I would put it in with darks after that.

EndlessWaffle · 23/11/2020 09:14

I'd wash with the whites. But I'd be judicious about what else goes in the machine with it on the first go. I usually put a bit of faith in the manufacturers not to put a leaky dye on a mixed piece of clothing like this, but maybe I'm just very naive!

Girlzroolz · 23/11/2020 09:15

Definitely Colour catchers in-wash sheets (or similar).

Life-changing, and helps the budget as well as the planet.

AlpineSnow · 23/11/2020 09:22

I do a light wash once a week which includes white things with coloured pictures/patterns on them as well as pastels, so I'd do that, although I'd rather not put something with black on in it.
White wash is separate from that.

zigaziga · 23/11/2020 09:29

Other than clothes that haven’t been washed before and are very bright (eg brand new red jumper) so are likely to run, I put everything in together and have no problems.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/11/2020 09:44

I’d wash it on its own low temp with a couple of colour catchers because you just know it’s going to dump a load of dye everywhere.

LadyEloise · 23/11/2020 09:51

I hate washing white clothes with dark bits or dark clothes with white bits.
So many white / pale tops have dark labels on them. Why ???
Colour Catcher is your friend.

Beni1993 · 23/11/2020 09:55

Unfortunately I am yet to reach that level of adulthood where I start separating my washes into colours yet 👀😂 so placemarking for when I really need something to do

CatMuffin · 23/11/2020 11:17

I didn't start separating washing until late 30s when i decided i didn't want to send kids to school in grey school shirts

CatMuffin · 23/11/2020 11:18

That are meant to be white

Deadringer · 23/11/2020 11:39

I only ever do coloureds and whites, its not all white so would go into a mixed/coloureds wash here. I don't use colour catchers and have never had any mishaps.

WitchDancer · 23/11/2020 12:44

A white wash should only be pure white otherwise you will get grey whites. I would put it in a pale wash and hope.

HuntedForest · 23/11/2020 20:24

I don't have anything that is pure white, I don't think. It's all white with pastel flowers/unicorns/stripes/sharks/mud stains (seriously, why would you give a child white shorts??) but nothing with dark colours. Until now.

Today it looked at me malevolently from the washing basket. Maybe tomorrow...

I have a 15 min wash on my machine, that I use for this kind of crazy shit.

RumJerrySailorRum · 23/11/2020 20:34

DH has a white and navy block coloured top.

It goes in with the darks/colours wash.

It's come out fine every time.

If however it was one of my tops I'd probably put it alone on the 15min cycle.

dingledongle · 23/11/2020 20:39

I usually wash with whites, 30 or 40 degrees Wink

Knittedfairies · 23/11/2020 20:55

I'd put it in the washing machine by itself on a very quick programme until it stops being a favourite shirt, then it would get thrown in with a mixed wash.
