Do I go to A&E?

I’m prepared for a flaming but I fell down about 5 stairs yesterday and I’ve really hurt my hip. It wasn’t too horrendous yesterday (although I have a bad back and that really hurt yesterday too), but I barely slept for pain and today it’s agony and I can barely walk. So a&e, yes or no?

If you’re unsure about rocking up to A&E, is there a walk-in Minor Injuries unit nearby? You could also phone 111 for advice about where it’s best to go.

EduCated · 23/11/2020 08:12

But yes, get it seen if you are in that much pain!

Autumnblooms · 23/11/2020 08:13

If your in pain, doctors call, if your in agony A&E.

Probably best a&e to check nothing is splintered

I would - if you think you may need an X-ray after and accident then A and E is the place for you.

Hellomoonstar · 23/11/2020 08:18

If you think you think you need a x-ray then a&e. Because that is the only place with a x-ray around here.

FixTheBone · 23/11/2020 08:23

The most important bit is the 'barely able to walk'

I regularly see people with impacted femoral neck fractures or acetabulum fractures where an earlier xray would have made treatment a heck of a lot more straightforward.

HaHaVeryBunny · 23/11/2020 08:23

Yep if you're in agony and there is no walk in centre/clinic nearby, l would go to A and E. And there is no reason you should be flamed on here for doing that.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

HaHaVeryBunny · 23/11/2020 08:31

Actually @FixTheBone seems to know what they're talking about, username checks outGrin so l would go with their advice.

InescapableDeath · 23/11/2020 08:35

You've had an accident and the GP won't be able to do an x-ray, so I would!

TheTempest · 23/11/2020 08:35

Thank you, my best friend is going to drop me there this morning. I have taken tramadol and paracetamol and ibuprofen this morning, and I’m still making a very loud noise every time I have to move. I have a high pain threshold and this hurts like hell. Fingers crossed they won’t think I’m wasting their time!

Hope you’re okay!

TheTempest · 26/11/2020 17:35

Hi, I saw the doctor and had an X-ray. No break seen so basically it was either my back (as I have several things wrong with it anyway) was jolted, or my pelvis was bruised? Anyhow, got painkillers and saw physios who gave me crutches. Very painful but I seem to be on the mend now. Apparently pelvic textures are very difficult to spot, and I’ve been asked to attend fracture clinic next week. I also have an MSK appointment on Monday. Thanks for thinking of me Smile
