....and the interviewee is on a video link from their home/office/kitchen/living room do you find you’re not really looking at the person or 100% listening to what they are saying?! Personally I can’t help but look at their bookshelves, photo’s, pictures, decor, whether the room is really tidy or a bit messy, what kind of furniture is around, etc. I hardly spend much time looking at the person but I’m transfixed by all of the above!
I often think to myself that’s a nice kitchen, where did they get that picture from, I’m not sure about that wallpaper for that room or I wish my house was that tidy and minimal?! The number of times I’ve had to rewind to actually listen to what they are saying is a bit embarrassing really 🤭

There is every chance it’s just me with a lower than usual attention span! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nope I'm the same. Actually DH is as bad. We are especially keen to see how other people have their home offices set up . He had the news paused one day and called me in to admire a super swanky kitchen that someone was sitting in.

Ha! I’m glad it’s not just me!
Yes the kitchens especially are great to look at.

Same! 😆

Do you run an imaginary finger along the shelves and worktops to check dust levels ?

WanderingMilly · 22/11/2020 09:54

I find this distracting, to be honest.

It looks so unprofessional to see the kitchen in the background, or to realise that their office is actually the (badly) converted loft, or that they have carefully placed themselves in front of a full bookcase to make it look as though they are widely read. I hate it and wish we were back to normal.

And God forbid when the cat/dog/toddler walks in. No, I do not find it sweet, I find it bloody dreadful. Keep your animals and kids out of an interview, I don't pay my TV licence to get shots of your animals or children.

I like Jason Leitch’s wildlife paintings. Not because I actually like them, but because it’s not a full bookshelf of academic texts, the bible & Harry Potter. I reckon he’s sat on his couch, laptop perched on the coffee table in front of him, slightly pissed that he needs to talk to Sally Magnuson on reporting Scotland at dinner time one again.

WildRosie - I often think oh that would be a nightmare to dust all those ornaments!

WanderingMilly - I think when we do get back to normal at some stage I will miss the background watching of the video link interviews, it’s brought a bit of added interest during these difficult times.

Icebearforpresident - I’ve seen a few interesting wildlife paintings too. I agree it makes a change from the bookcases. Some of which I notice very carefully placed books with the full cover facing camera. I then realise in some cases they are actually advertising their own books!

Yep I'm with you on this. For me, it's a combination of fascination/nosiness, pleasure at seeing people's lovely homes, and also envy of people who have actual proper home-offices (as opposed to working on their bed or kitchen table)...
