Ebay or FB marketplace

I have a barely use electric piano and some branded toys to sell.

I've used Ebay quite a bit in the last but not recently. Last time was probably 5 years ago and I thought it wasn't what it was then.

I've never used FB to sell anything. Is there anything I need to know? How does payment work?

I would sell on Fb marketplace, cash on collection only, and sell to whoever can collect first.

Cash on collection, to avoid any paypal / courier scams. Also stops you from having item did not arrive or dealing with damaged item claims.

Don't waste time holding onto an item for someone, as they'll more than likely disappear never to be heard of again. First come first serve.

Still mostly cash because mostly they come to your home to collect. Cash is highly preferable in terms of you being guaranteed to get the funds. You could tell them a Paypal address of course.

We've recently sold quite a few things on Facebook. You do get some flaky people and it's really easy to accidentally send a, "Is this still available?" message, but those who are genuinely interested tend to arrange collection quickly. I only give our address when someone confirms when they will collect.

I'd do FB, no fees, and they collect. Cash on collection.

Ebay would reach a bigger audience so you might get a little more for it, but a digital piano isn't going to be easy to send and the extra you make could be lost in Ebay and PayPal fees.

FB for furniture.
This week we have quickly rid ourselves of a bed and a wardrobe. We only asked for small amounts but it’s saved us tip runs. And wicked waste of still useful pieces.

But this time of year I only accept evening or nighttime pickups when my husband is around. And I don’t discourage the dog from barking until I see what the people coming to collect look like.

We're working from home so it really doesn't matter when someone collects. I take the view with a lot of things that charity shop aren't open and if it saves me a trip to the tip then it's worth listing and seeing how it goes.

eBay for specifics, FB for everything else. DS was recently selling a guitar pedal which lurked on FB for ages. Listed on eBay it was gone in no time as it's quite specific and reaches a wider target audience.

I'm a fan of sticking stuff on FB for free or very little, this guarantees that someone will take it off your hands quickly as they are worried someone else will get it.

There are Facebook groups for specific things too. My son was selling an expensive track bike so put it on a velodrome equipment page and it went for full price in a couple of days.

If its a large or heavy item that's a PITA to post, I'd use FB. But if its smaller and easy to post I'm likely to use Ebay because you can reach more potential buyers.
