Having a little freak out. Need to get a grip.

My husband works down a mine. He was supposed to be home about an hour ago but just had a phone call from HR to say that they are all trapped underground due to a powercut. The powercut was about 2:30pm and it's still not been restored.

I'm worried about the heat down there, will they still have enough water etc.

I'm a bit scared and I'm on the verge of a panic attack. I have my coping strategies and I'm doing them but just need someone to have a firm word and tell me to pull myself together.

Thinking of you.

LintonTravelTavern · 21/11/2020 03:17

Would all of the emergency services be present OP? They must have a plan.

Have any of the other partners spoken to you? Are you allowed to go there?

Tootsietoot · 21/11/2020 03:21

I hope they resolve it soon.

Caeruleanblue · 21/11/2020 03:32

KissesYouLikeaCoalMiner · 21/11/2020 03:35

That's a long time now since they called you! I'm sure he'll be home soon. Have you slept at all? Maybe lay on the sofa and try to nap for a bit

Specialgodson · 21/11/2020 03:43

Gosh I feel for you. It would be nice if you had one of his colleague’s close family’s details in future Just so you aren’t so alone if there is a concern. I am no help but wish I was and I think distraction is all you can do to cope while waiting and try not to think too much . I listen to comedy when stressed! There is a funny you tube video by James Veitch for example replying to email scammers that is quite funny

GroundAlmonds · 21/11/2020 03:49

Have the local media got the story in their websites/SM?

Shaniac · 21/11/2020 03:53

Oh op he will be ok. Definitely try stay distracted.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/11/2020 03:59

How frightening for you. Sending you some reassurance. These days with all the health and safety measures now in place, your husband and his work mates will be being looked after. They’ll be tired, fed up and some of them anxious. But in a way it’s possibly easier for them than you, who are awaiting an update.

poplin · 21/11/2020 04:08

Gosh that sounds really stressful and how disappointing to hear that nobody has kept in touch with you. I really hope you hear some news soon.

Fleabagster · 21/11/2020 04:09

Thinking of you - this sounds incredibly stressful. Please update us when you get news. Those poor miners! Xx

BrowncoatWaffles · 21/11/2020 04:21

So sorry to read he’s still not home. I’m sure the lack of updates is because they’re working hard to get power restored. Can you try and doze a bit? He’ll be home soon desperate for some food and some sleep!

DigitalChristmas · 21/11/2020 04:23

Thinking of you. I feel horrible even asking this, but is it possible it was one of his friends calling and he’s gone to their place to socialise after a long shift?
The lack of contact and nothing in the news/social media is sending alarm bells ringing for me.

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 21/11/2020 04:27

Ring Cleveland Police @KissesYouLikeaCoalMiner hopefully they can advise you. Sending you my love, only up the road in Darlo

theseriousmoonlight · 21/11/2020 04:43

Oh OP, it's been such a long night for you. I do hope you hear something soon. Have you managed to sleep at all?

tcjotm · 21/11/2020 05:15

Thinking of you, how worrying. And such poor form from the company. They should have a simple straightforward process for updates. It wouldn’t be so hard to manage - offhand say one person (on site, in the know) updating someone else (an administrator, a even a volunteer) who then manages a WhatsApp group for example. And who sends out regular updates even if there’s no news so at least people don’t feel forgotten. There’s no excuse for the hours you’ve waited without notice when it’s well known that people cope badly without information and that’s even with harmless things like a sitting in stuck train. In an industry like this the company should’ve been prepared.

I hope he’s home soon.

Cinderellashoes · 21/11/2020 05:24

Hope you are okay

TokyoSushi · 21/11/2020 05:30

Oh OP, hope you're ok and they get everything sorted very soon Flowers

spidermomma · 21/11/2020 05:32

Oh op this is awful they should keep you more updated ! That's disgusting, I hope your okay and he's home safe xx

LST · 21/11/2020 05:36

Hope you're OK OP xx

Hopeisnotastrategy · 21/11/2020 05:39

Hi OP, another one awake here and sending a handhold. x

I once had to get through the night when DH was in intensive care abroad and I couldn't get any news. I got through it by putting on the BBC Pride and Prejudice and dozing fitfully on the sofa all night. Longest night of my life, but all was well in the end. I'm sure it will be for you as well.

You've got through the worst part of the night now, and soon it will be starting to get light. Everything looks a bit better then. 💐

eaglejulesk · 21/11/2020 05:46

Thinking of you OP, and hoping you hear something soon. The company really need to work on their communication skills, families need to be kept updated on things such as this, it's not fair leaving people waiting for news. Hope your DH is soon home. Flowers

cottonTailTrail · 21/11/2020 05:53

I hope you have managed some sleep op. I'm sure your dp will be ok and home soon .

FYC · 21/11/2020 06:13

I hope he’s home now. Try not to worry too much they have some supplies stored down there for emergencies. I worked there a long time ago and whilst they are terrible at communication their rescue teams are the absolute best. I remember when the shaft broke down years ago and it took a very long time to get everyone out safely but they did it. Hope you are now asleep and all is well. Maybe contact the union if you can and suggest better updates next time.
