Does everyone just think the decade they were teenagers was the best?

Sat here with DH after having a few drinks watching top of the pops which I'm sure I probably watched as a child.
I was born in 84 and I look back at the 1990s/early 00's with such nostalgia. Sometimes I just long to go back to those care free days listening to great music (mainly rock and indie in my case). I hear of ppl born in different decades saying the same about the decade they came into their late teens and early twenties being the best. Am I right in saying the 90s were the best or was there a better decade to be alive?

I was a 90s teen (turned 13 in 1990). There were many many good things about it - music, clothes (mostly!) freedom, the optimism of the end of the long Tory administration, free university.

Also feel very lucky to have been in my mid 20s with peak disposable income during the era of cheap flights to Europe (before we realised how irresponsible that was).

Personally, much happier now in my 40s than I was as a teen. I think in a great many ways we had it easier than the current generation (my kids are young teens). But as a society we've also come a long way in terms of issues of consent, broader acceptance of non-straight sexualities (I was taught homosexuality was a sin at my Catholic secondary), not accepting casual racism etc. I'm not saying any of that is perfect, but I think it's better than it was back then.

1980s? Er, no. not then. Nuclear war threat, Thatcher, miners strikes, Iran-Contra, rise of religious extremism. I'm not feeling any love for all that.

Can't think of a best decade.
1950s was pretty good if you were white, I suppose.

Yes, I've turned into my parents, but there has GOT to be some truth to it now with Brexit, Trump, Covid etc surely?! I look back at the simplicity of the noughties before the crash when I was a teenager and not having a "comedy" leader and think these were more "normal" and stable times right?! I yearn for that!

I’m ten years older than you and still think the 90s was the best! Especially 1997 onwards!

I’d hate to grow up in the era of social media. My DC are soon to be teenagers and I fear for their mental health so much - especially negotiating sexual relationships in an era of hard core porn and instant photos. It terrifies me. We were able to make all our awful mistakes without the world potentially knowing about it within seconds Sad.

I was a teenager in the 80’s and I remember having so much fun on so little money. I probably have rose tinted glasses. I don’t see my teenagers having the same 😔(not talking about the current year).

Funnily enough , I was just thinking the other day that I would love to be given the chance to be transferred back to the mid 80's again just to relive it again . It really was a really happy time in my life .Leaving school and starting my training and all the wonderful friends I made and still have .The music reminds me of all those happy days and some of the mad innocent fun stuff that we did with nobody shaking their heads and pointing the finger.My 22 year old son has a big record collection now of 80's artists and its so great to listen to them with him.That was what made the decade.

No. I was a teenager in the 70s. Strikes, three day weeks, sexism, racism and misogyny rife. I hated it.

I was a teen in the 80s, didn't enjoy it - loved the 90s though when I was in my 20s!

@YesPleaseMary

The 90s were the best. I can’t bring myself to believe they started 30 years ago.
If you find that hard to believe I was reading witty a child in class the other day who thought 1990 was 250 years ago Shock
