If you had to move to USA right now, where would you go?

Sure they still have a terrible virus issue, but Trump is out! This is imaginary btw - for anyone who is like me and goes "ooh a relocation thread" (I always find them fascinating).

If you had to pack up and move to USA, flights and accommodation fully paid for... where? It's for a good 2 years, more if it works out. You get a decent flashy flat in a city or a little house in suburbia, a really big place if you're happy to go rural (I know I know this does not reflect the vast price differences across a place so big but im still not going to be silly enough to say you can get a house in manhatten, say).

I used to be:

  1. New York all the way! Love the city to death. However, I have left my 20s behind and city life in general so I was thinking..
  1. Bay area on outskirts of san fran. But the prices are so ridiculous It's almost worse than new York and the wild fires are getting worse and worse, plus I've decided I really like proper seasons.

So, take 3!

  1. Colorado. It's so outdoorsy, love the mountains, the fact you can have a proper family life there. Ok so parts of it are quite conservative but they voted democrat this time and I find it an interesting place regardless. Yes, ds, dh and I would make do there for a bit.

Who's next?

Oregon

Bridgehsmpton, Sag Harbour or somewhere upstate NY/Connecticut. I love NYC but wouldn’t want to live there anymore. Somewhere you get snow in the winter and the summers are longer than here.

MrsExpo · 20/11/2020 11:13

I have friends in Portland, Oregon so would probably choose there. (It's a great city, if you have to live in a city!).

Juno231 · 20/11/2020 11:16

Boulder Colorado! Looks stunning, IT hub so should be higher than average intelligence lol (compared to being caught somewhere in the sticks/bible belt) and I love the idea of 4 proper seasons with snowy winters and hot summers. My god the hiking I could do!

Boredsilly · 20/11/2020 11:45

The Pacific Northwest, Oregon looks just beautiful with the coast and mountains or the East Coast, Massachusetts some of the towns there look gorgous!

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/11/2020 11:46

Seattle (I have family there), or Chicago. Hmmmm, got me thinking, op...

Lelophants · 20/11/2020 12:19

@agradecida

Where did Trump get the lowest % votes? There! (Unless it's got a cold climate!)
According to a quick Google it's the state of Massachusets! I would fancy a quick Boston trip now I think about it.

Boston/Cambridge, or maybe Boulder.

WildRosie · 20/11/2020 12:24

San Diego, Portland-OR or Long Island.

SunflowerTree · 20/11/2020 12:26

Chicago

Northern California, Oregon or Washington State. Couldn't cope with the weather in anyof the other areas. Too hot or too cold elsewhere.

dubyalass · 20/11/2020 12:53

East or west coast on the border with Canada. But I’d rather Canada, full stop.

Foldinthecheese · 20/11/2020 12:54

I’m from Oregon originally and it’s great: beautiful scenery, lots to do, amazing food, relatively mild climate. But Portland isn’t representative of the whole place, and there are a lot of problems with extreme right wing groups in the eastern and southern parts of the state. Oregon also really lacks diversity due to historically racist policies. Saying all that, I would happily move to central Oregon, where I would be close to family and could access all the great outdoor activities on offer. My husband would happily go along for the beer.

DappledOliveGroves · 20/11/2020 12:56

Looking recently at the states with the fewest Covid restrictions, and wanting to be as far away from the woke liberals as possible, I think I'd settle on Arkansas. Or maybe Florida.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/11/2020 13:12

NYC. I would never live in a Republican state.

Iwantacampervan · 20/11/2020 13:18

Chicago - we had a fantastic holiday there in summertime (I know it gets very cold in the winter). Also, it's a Democrat area.

severussnaperus · 20/11/2020 13:21

Las Vegas 🥳

User647647 · 20/11/2020 13:22

Have lived in both NY and SAN Francisco.

It was fun for a while but if I had to go back, definitely Colorado.

meow1989 · 20/11/2020 13:24

For a day to day life where i had to work; Boston, I love it there and its near the sea.

For a dream holiday home i could spend months at a time at - hawaii!

User647647 · 20/11/2020 13:25

I lived in NYC for a few years.

Yes, the city is very liberal, but most of my work colleagues were from Long Island and New Jersey, I’m confident most of them have voted for Trump.

At the end of the day, the office is where you’ll spend most of your day and we’re you’ll be interacting with people.

This was back when Bush was ‘evil’. I’ll never forget in my first week at work, I saw a framed picture of Bush in someone’s desk.

nemeton · 20/11/2020 13:55

Small town Connecticut or Massachusetts. I would say Maine, coastal area, but I don't think I would manage the winters.
I've lived in big cities my whole life, I need a quieter way of life now I think.

Strokethefurrywall · 20/11/2020 16:04

Colorado for sure.
San Diego
NYC is my favorite city but have no interest in living there now I've got kids.

I want the outdoors and mountains and seasons. Don't know why I live in the Caribbean!
