Are they worth it?

Any recommendations?

I asked my dentist and he doesn't rate them, says conventional floss or tepee interdental brushes are much better.

SpillingTheTea · 18/11/2020 21:34

Yes.
They can be as good as using tepe brushes. Anything to help you clean interdentally is always good.
I was given the Phillips air flosser to me for free (I work in dental) and prefer that over the water flosser but both are equally as good!

I bought a 25 quid one from amazon last week because I keep getting bits of meat stuck. My teeth gaps are very small. It makes me feel really clean :)

I've got a Nicefeel model. I like it. It always gets some bits that my Oral B brush has missed. And sometimes I'll use it when I can't be bothered brushing for 2mins. But my dentist told me the teepee type/interdental brushes are better for me.

Christmasbiscuit · 18/11/2020 21:41

It's ok and I like the clean feeling it gives but I still floss normally just in case it misses anything.

Unexpected bonus of a water flosser: Dh was intrigued by it on the bathroom shelf, switched it on and squirted himself in the face with water Grin

My gums and teeth weren't in great shape a few years ago. I couldn't by tolerate conventional floss (kept getting stuck between my teeth and making gums bleed). I used a water glosser for a few months and my gums improved enough for me to then be able to use interdental brushes, so based on my experience I would say yes, they are very effective.

I asked my dentist this question earlier today.

She said water flossers were fine for removing flood from between your teeth, but dental floss/tape and tee pee brushes (together) were better for removing plaque.

She said she’d been to several conferences on peridontal disease and that was the consensus.

The water container is a bugger to clean on my waterpik.
However, I do like it and I think it has made a difference to my flossing.

I got unbranded one from Amazon. I’d recommend. It really gets rid of the bits stuck especially round the gums. It takes a while to get used to it but better than the tape in my opinion.

i hate flossing so one of these makes it more easier for me

I've used the Philips water flosser for a couple of years and its been a game changer. My dentist says the same as ILikeBiscuits and that my gums are in better shape.
I'm disabled and flossing my teeth manually is challenging now. I use warm salt water in it, and flush it with cold tap water after every use.

I've been flossing as well as brushing for years and had resigned myself to the way that the plaque still built up between my teeth between visits to the dentist, so that I always need a 'scrape and polish' as well as a check up.

Had a waterpik since reading about them on MN back in January this year and have been really pleased with the results. Ten months later the (small) gaps between my teeth have not filled up with plaque.

Once a day I do the full floss, waterpik then brush routine. Other times I just brush. I had hoped that waterpik would replace the tape / floss but having used plaque revealing tablets I've established that it takes all three in that order to get my teeth so clean that there is nothing to 'reveal'.

As a bonus, my gums no longer bleed.

The brushes never did anything for me, in-spite of being given a few for free most times when I visit the dentist.
