What Xmas food shall I add to delivery next week?

Normally have a strict mental rule not to start eating mince pies until 1 Dec, but I feel that this year I can start slightly early, next delivery on 26 Nov.
Other than mince pies... what treats should I be ordering...? Mind has gone blank. I did put a Baileys on the order though...

Have we got pringles yet?

ChristmasSlayRide · 18/11/2020 19:21

Pringles and dips......

Happyelfjokeday · 18/11/2020 19:25

Eek. Am now thinking I need to ration myself and not buy (& eat) everything next week, otherwise I will put on 2 stone before Xmas!
Mince pies and Baileys are still very much in the plan, and the idea of some melty cheesey dippy things is also top of mind! Probably some sort of crisps also allowed by this point I’m thinking.
Feeling so hungry now, better eat dinner before I update the order otherwise I might be in trouble next week!

Maybe also fancy cheese straws as a ‘nibble’ for any nibbling occasions (aka most of the time...). Plus the wine to be mulled.

Some nice coffee perhaps. Much needed - eating all that food is exhausting. Grin

Happyelfjokeday · 18/11/2020 19:32

And just thought of a plan for cranberry sauce ahead of Xmas day - some sort of Brie, Ham/Bacon and Cranberry sandwich. Perfect

We have cranberry with baked camembert and par baked sourdough baguette. Oh and some grapes for health purposes.

I now no longer want to look at other threads. What's the point if they are not topped with cranberry sauce with a chocolate orange on the side!?

That's it - this thread wins Mumsnet today.

Wellthisismorethanabitgrim · 18/11/2020 19:46

Stollen!! Also the big tubs of cheese footballs, twiglets etc.

anothergloriousmorning · 18/11/2020 19:53

Our essentials over the Christmas period include cheese, crackers, pate, pickles, part-baked baguettes, pigs in blankets, peanuts, 'posh' biscuits, and a tin of chocolates.

movingonup20 · 18/11/2020 19:54

We've been scoffing mince pies since the beginning of November, got stollen today and my eyes are on Yule log at the weekend

Happyelfjokeday · 18/11/2020 19:59

Am starting to think that late November pigs in blankets are justified, based on some posts.
Maybe they could be dunked in baked Camembert for extra goodness/calories, alongside baguette.

I read this and moaned.

Tesco do an amazing ham and spiced cola crisps!

Oh dear. Bang goes the diet! What an excellent suggestion 🤣🤣🤣

Pepperwand · 18/11/2020 20:29

Pigs in blankets go very well in a baguette with some brown sauce Grin.

I am a big fan of Aldi Ballycastle Faileys (fake Baileys). It's not quite as nice as the real thing but at £4 a bottle I'm not complaining!

Mashingthecompost · 18/11/2020 20:47

Stroopwafels.

bearlyactive · 18/11/2020 20:52

You guys are torturing me!! I was in Aldi earlier and saw those cheese bake things, wish I'd got one now!

ColdNovemberNights · 18/11/2020 20:53

Meat !

Local big Tesco here is completely sold out of turkeys

Happyelfjokeday · 18/11/2020 21:09

Now I’m gutted I have to wait till next week, am feeling some of these things are justified from now. I guess this is why the Xmas season is short-ish - think of our arteries if we ate like this all year! Mmm

ChristmasSlayRide · 18/11/2020 21:57

I've got my turkey.

My eldest doesn't care about presents but he loves his Christmas dinner. Got one as soon as they were available. Got the stuffing and sausage meat, just need some streaky bacon now.

I'm fat happyelfjokeday, when lockdown 1 started DH and I ate loads and the joke was "fuck it, it's Christmas". Not laughing now am I?! I'm not starting on the goodies until 14th December.

goose1964 · 18/11/2020 22:04

Twiglets, more twiglets, festive flavour crisps, cheese footballs, cheddars, ritz crackers, Bombay mix, hovis digestives , clementines. On the more general food line cranberries as soon as you see them to make cranberry sauce, cheese, fruit juices for cocktails, maraschino cherries.

ancientgran · 18/11/2020 23:29

Just had a cuppa and a mince pie. I want another one.

FredtheFerret · 18/11/2020 23:37

These sound brilliant!

Chestnuts - we have a coal fire in the living room and we roast them in it and then peel and eat them whilst they are still hot. It's very Dickensian and takes me back to my childhood when my father did this. (Disclaimer: I'm not quite old enough to be Dickensian..😊)

BritInAus · 19/11/2020 06:20

Not on topic (sorry!) but as an expat abroad, it REALLY made me smile to hear someone mention 'the big tesco'. I love how so many towns/cities have 'a big tesco', a 'small tesco' etc... when I visit family in the UK I always enjoy popping to the new tesco'.

It opened in about 1994.

birkenstocks4ever · 19/11/2020 06:27

If you're shopping at Sainsbury's you NEED ecclefechans. They're like a cross between a mince pie and an Eccles cake and they are hands down the best thing about Christmas. I never see them in any other supermarket so I always make a special trip for them 🤤🤤
