People threaten to boycott Sainsbury’s over their Christmas advert

because it’s an all black family Hmm

I don’t like the advert. But that’s because I think it’s a rubbish advert, not because the family are black

Do people not realise that there are actually black families. I mean, they exist. What a bizarre thing to get worked up about although the dad endlessly demanding validation for his bloody gravy is irritating as fuck

DioneTheDiabolist · 17/11/2020 17:09

AFAIK it's just racists who are threatening to boycott Sainsbury's.

TK Maxx have the best christmas ad this year.Grin

mogloveseggs · 17/11/2020 17:10

What is wrong with people!
I quite like the advert too

Just watched it! Amazing!!!! Grin
SimonJT · 17/11/2020 17:12

Probably the same racist arseholes who complained when Loose Women had an all black panel.

Duckwit · 17/11/2020 17:15

It's the first in a sequence of 3 adverts - the second ad was released today and features a white family.

I much prefer these ads to the awful WW2 one they did a few years ago.

DioneTheDiabolist · 17/11/2020 17:17

It really is @mogloveseggs.Grin

FrustratoPotato · 17/11/2020 17:27

I think it's a great ad. It doesn't cutesy it up with unrealistic scenes of the "perfect" christmas. You know the one... huge house with obvs pro decorations and snow, beautiful, fashionable, wholesome (usually white) family. Some shmaltzy voice-over about mum's turkey. Or the overly sentimental tearjerker ads like John Lewis. I'm baffled by the furore to be honest.

Pumpertrumper · 17/11/2020 17:27

I didn’t even register they were a black family. Well I mean obviously I did but I just watched it like every other advert.

I get a bit exasperated with occasion adverts/shows which go to the extremes of PC and in fairness don’t actually reflect 99% of the U.K. but COME ON, it’s just a regular black family. That’s totally normal! By PC terms that’s pretty boring surely? I’m sure half the country are regular non white families! People need to get over themselves.

Echobelly · 17/11/2020 17:31

As someone has pointed out on Twitter, Aldi's Christmas ad family are carrots, and no one's complained they can't relate or feel unrepresented by them!

bringbackCabanas · 17/11/2020 17:45

And people claim that there's no racism in the UK, or that "they don't see colour" Hmm
I can't believe in 2020 this is still happening. But here we are. It's a fucking disgrace.

WestendVBroadway · 17/11/2020 17:50

A few weeks ago there were two black presenters on Sunday Morning live. Apparently they had numerous complaints on Twitter about this. When the main black presenter mentioned the abuse the following week I was appalled. WTF is wrong with people?

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 17/11/2020 17:51

Must be a slow news day for the Metro, so they've made up a story to fill the paper by trawling Twitter for random racists.

I mean, hold the front page, 'people say vile crap on Twitter' shock.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 17/11/2020 17:59

there was also quite the to-do about the recent tesco ad featuring a black woman...the one where she flashes her card at all the freezer cabinets, it's promoting their new clubcard deals

Lots of awful tweets.

Theimpossiblegirl · 17/11/2020 18:04

If racists are boycotting Sainsbury's, I'm going to be shopping there happy in the knowledge I'm probably not surrounded by twats. It's a win for me.

DrDavidBanner · 17/11/2020 18:21

People are stupid but sadly it doesn't suprise me. Have people really been complaining about the Tesco Clubcards advert too?

TBH I mustly watch Netflix and catch up TV at the moment cause I don't really like adverts but God its sad isn't it?

Wall to wall gambling adverts offend me, but this i just a normal family having a nice family Christmas, after the year we've had you'd think people had worse things to worry about.

BluebellsGreenbells · 17/11/2020 18:34

Sorry but the McDonald’s ad is miles better

ilovecardigans · 17/11/2020 18:37

Don't worry racists, Sainsbury's board of directors is still largely made up of white men (67%)...

MrsMiaWallis · 17/11/2020 18:56

The McDonald's ad is one of the most depressing thing I've ever seen.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 17/11/2020 22:34

@pastandpresent

Op, calling black people "blacks" after calling white people "white people" is a bit rude for someone who are angry at others.
