Just thinking about all the vulnerable elderly and children for who lockdown must be very difficult. Are social workers still able to do face to face visits ?

They will be if it's necessary yes,I have a child with complex learning disabilities and whilst we don't have a social worker, there are various other professionals involved ,everything has been done over zoom or phonecall ,but these are routine appointments.

Yes, we have a statutory duty. Lots of supporting services have stopped face-to-face work though.

Yes, social workers have carried on just like nothing has changed, just wearing face masks. Oh and a massively increased workload for both adults and children’s services. I think most of it is completely under the radar and people have no idea that social workers have worked throughout the pandemic, with little ppe, no social distancing, no publicity or clapping, just an underrated an exhausted workforce doing what they can to keep people safe.

Yep. We are basing it on clinical need. So if things can be done on zoom (meetings etc) we are, but if I think it’s urgent or there’s a reason face to face is better (I work in adult mental health), we’re doing face to face.

Yes and they always have been; in the first place with no masks and in houses that are often too small to keep 2 metres apart and with parents who don’t always respect social distancing. All the services that support them mostly haven’t been though including health visitors who would often pick up on problems. Social workers have really been forgotten as front line workers.
