I am a nitwit and need help understanding heat pump tumble dryers

I know, I know, I am probably about 15 years behind everyone else, but.....

Tumble dryer packed up over the weekend. We have tried to have it repaired but no go (it would cost £170 and is 8y old so little point). In the market for a new one, and in my head it was condenser v vented.

Now, I see there is this new wonder called heat pump! But the question is, do they need venting, too? Because we sealed off the space for a TD vent a while back so need to buy one that doesn't vent outside........

Much gratitude to anyone who can explain in words of one syllable!

In simple terms, no they don't.

Thanks............so basically I can run one with no ventilation at all?

Our house is draughty and when we had the external render done a couple of years back, they removed and skimmed over the TD vent, as we had a condenser so didn't need it.

You are certainly no nitwit as I bought my heat pump dryer 3 weeks ago and like you I had no idea! Smile I love mine, it has saved me so much time (but I was replacing a pretty rubbish washer/dryer combo.).

You need no vent, just plug in and go.They produce very little heat so no issues with condensation in the room which we had with previous condensers. With our one there’s a Water tank at the top which I empty after each load. Ours is a Samsung and it’s been pretty great so far (but still early days!)

We have a Samsung one too. As pp said it has a water tank to empty, very easy, no vent needed. Ours did breakdown within the first year so was repaired under warranty. Otherwise I love it.
