how do you cut your sandwiches?

I've just been introduced the concept of cutting sandwiches in a RANDOM PATTERN.

not in half or quarters.... nope. Just cut random angles, and end up with about 5-7 pieces of various shapes.

it's changed my life...

I clearly need to get out more

Used to love when my gran would cut sandwiches into 5 triangles Smile I'm going to do this for my kids lunches tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder OP Smile

I use a bat cutter.

magicstar1 · 16/11/2020 14:06

It depends a lot on the sandwich. If it's bacon or sausage then straight down the middle so there's a rasher on each part. If something like ham and coleslaw then diagonal. If however it's like what I just had...hot roast pork on bread and butter, then I don't cut it at all. Just eat around the crusts until I get to the hot pork with melted butter...perfection!

You could be like Cher in Mermaids and use pastry cutters to make all manner of weird and wonderful sandwich shapes, OP.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 16/11/2020 14:27

Just no.

Sandwich = in half/rectangles
Toast = triangles

I do like the pastry cutter idea though. Got a lovely reindeer one.....

MrsSugar · 16/11/2020 14:29

Hmm.... depends on the filling....

Cheese in half across the middle then halved again into squares

Tuna Mayo - halved across the middle

Fancy fillings - 2 big triangles

Extra fancy like a wee afternoon tea type... 4 triangles

IhateBoswell · 16/11/2020 14:31

I cut them diagonally into two triangles. More sandwich that way.

Mochudubh · 16/11/2020 14:33

It's all about Pythagoras innit?

Cutting diagonally creates a higher exposed filling to crust ratio, the more you cut, the more filling is exposed.

Pythagoras for sandwiches, Pi for pizza (and pie).

InTheseUncertainTimes · 16/11/2020 14:37

I do not cut them. Pointless faff.

bluerad · 16/11/2020 14:40

I always cut mine into three, like soldiers.

PattyPan · 16/11/2020 14:43

Triangles, always. Somehow rectangles/squares just seem sad, especially on white bread 🤢 I think there was a study or something that said triangles was best for some reason!

JovialNickname · 16/11/2020 14:44

I can only see the point if you're going to be sharing the sandwich. In which case it might be considered good etiquette to have a variety of different shaped and sized pieces. But I don't really get it if it's just you eating it!

Slugslasher · 16/11/2020 15:15

I have an engineer for a husband. For a laugh I often cut his sandwiches off centre just to watch his reaction. It’s the same when I cut into a pizza or divvi up a lasagne. He used to me now and doesn’t rise. 😁. Often he does the same to me to make me laugh.

CassandraCross · 16/11/2020 15:57

Cutting didn't feature in student days, it was all about the fold.

Someonesayroadtrip · 16/11/2020 16:07

Sometimes I don't even cut it 🤫

movingonup20 · 16/11/2020 16:13

Two rectangles unless I'm trying to impress eg afternoon tea

afaloren · 16/11/2020 16:26

Triangles for tuna or ham, square for corned beef or cheese.

My Nan used to make me tongue sandwiches and cut them into loads of tiny rectangles like lots of mini sandwiches. No crusts. I would sit on the very edge of her sofa with my feet dangling, and munch them while she knitted and told me all the gossip from the church lunch club.
