Disabling a contactless bank card

Has anyone actually done this? My bank is forcing me to have a contactless card and says it is not possible NOT to have contactless. There are videos showing how to do this online but they are a bit brutal! Just wondered if anyone had done this?

The advantage of contactless is that you are far less likely to leave it at a till because it never leaves your hand.

At least with contactless you are less likely to leave it in a card reader as it doesn't leave your hand. You can still choose to use it in a non contactless fashion

I actually didn't think of that - in fact everytime I have left it somewhere it is because I put it in the card reader and forgot. This makes me feel a bit better.Smile

Where are you in Italy?

I'm not in a big city. But I'll have to look into this phone paying thingy. I have a really old Samsung though....

I've just seen your update that your in Italy so it may be different there but I have a non contactless card . I requested it a couple of years back when my bag got stolen with my cards in and the contactless card was used on a few transactions after the card was registered stolen. Apparently it takes a day or 2 for the contactless to stop working .
Anyway I rarely use my card as I use Apple Pay which I feel is secure as my fingerprint pin activates it so if I left my phone somewhere they couldn't use .

Is Monzo available in your area? As soon as you spot you've lost your card you can immediately freeze all payments until you find it or request a new card.

Although that said it may not be compatible for a very old Android

^^ This.

I'm also a serial card loser but I haven't lost my card for some years now and it's probably due to using contactless so much more - I'm never going to be totally cash free because I use some places that are still cash only and I'm of an age where you feel a bit of a twat using a card to pay for anything under about a fiver, but I do use the card for about 97% of transactions and most of these are contactless.

I don't want to use my phone because I tried to set up the fingerprint reader and gave up after several attempts of CBA with that. I also don't always have it with me.
