Has anybody used this app?
I've had it for a while and finally bought a magic bag to be picked up tomorrow evening from a local Nisa.
I would be interested to hear what other people have recieved in their bags and if it was worth it for you

(For those who haven't used it, the app is designed to reduce food waste. Local shops or restaurants advertise "magic bags" for a low price but what you get in them is unknown until you pick it up)

Thank you for that update Podge! That sounds fab - I'll give it a go after all.
I picked up an Olio stash today and it was amazing. I chose granary bread, organic spinach, organic carrots, loads of asparagus and tenderstem broccoli, various salads, potatoes in garlic butter, chocolate croissants and some other bits which escape me right now Blush There was a load more food on offer; just not many users around here to take advantage of it, which is a shame.
And it's all free!
I get stuff from Olio a couple of times a week & it keeps us going handsomely.
Smile

That is fantastic! I've been keeping an eye on Olio but there hasn't been much local to me yet. Will keep my fingers crossed, though

My Dad lives in Central London and I am frankly jealous of the stuff he gets. He gets massive amounts of sushi, pastries and baguette sandwiches from Paul, and on one occasion pre-lockdown which made him and my mum giddy went into a hotel around Victoria where they gave him two large tinfoil takeaway boxes and told him to take whatever he wanted from their breakfast buffet. He and my mum were so thrilled there were pictures of the plated up meals in the family Whatsapp chat! For him because he's retired and has time to do it, can go out at weird times of the day/evening to pick stuff up and likes both a bargain and a walk it's actually become a bit of a surreal hobby.

I live in a smaller town and the only place nearby that does anything is the M&S petrol station at the end of the road where I once got a £4 bag. It was basically a couple of unsold open pain au raisin from the Cafe bit, along with a couple of cream cakes and some fruit. Nowhere near as exciting. I am hoping for the day we get more people sign up for it!

(Sushi wasn't, obviously, from Paul. It was from one of the well known sushi chains though - either Itsu or Wasabi I think)

What my dad has noticed is the stuff you get in a bag varies a lot between branches even of the same company. Also, at his local Paul they know him now and the lady behind the counter has a bit of a soft spot for him cause they have a chat when he comes in so she always makes sure to put in his favourite salami baguette and sometimes gives him a free coffee to take with it.

Honestly, it sounds lame but it gives him so much pleasure and I love hearing him tell me about!

I have used too good to go three times - Auntie Anne's, Starbucks and Go Puff. Really good value and nice to try something I wouldn't normally go for.

I tried Olio but due to time most things in the evening hard to do with children and not being able to drive so don't use it.

Have had loads and loads of magic bags but not for a while. The Morrisons ones are generally excellent, loads and loads of fruit and veg but you need to be a decent cook as it'll sometimes be something like 10 x punnets of plums or loads of green beans. Often there is bread/baked goods in the box too.

Also like the M&S petrol station bags, they are a bit more hit and miss but we have had chicken breasts, fish, nice desserts. Used to like the Greggs ones but we have a recently opened Greggs outlet store by us which is much better (2 steak bakes for £1) as you can choose what you want.

Not a fan of the Costa/Starbucks bags, the stuff is so expensive to start with so even a bag worth £12 original price is only about 3 cakes or pastries.

I stopped getting the Greggs ones recently. They were good value but I think I find the food a bit crap.
I’ve had several Morrisons ones but they are 90% fruit/veg with a bit of bread. I was hoping they would get more interesting but they haven’t. I complained twice as the food was mouldy too.

There’s a spar one near me but they don’t have much stock so I’m not convinced it would be great.

Too good to go review!
Poor value for money and effort!
Paid for a Toby Carvery, Veggie breakfast. No money at £2.79. however it was essentially a small (half size) breakfast sold to go. Not a save the waste effort. Toby is selling off unsold waste food (some beyond saleable condition) at half price for half amount (or less). After the effort to attend the restaurant why not pay the £5.50 and buy a full breakfast, fresh and delicious, to go. Forget the save the waste, the businesses are using the program to sell mini to go meals from their waste products, at pro rata prices. Avoid
