I’m annoyed at myself when I realise I’ve wasted my day.

Guess what I’ve done today? Some laundry, chatting on the phone, went for a walk with dc all of which took about 2 hrs.
The rest of the day was spent staring at my phone and snacking.
I want to lose weight and fill my time with things that are more meaningful.
I need help!

Ditto. But I'm not annoyed with myself. Tomorrow is another day - here's hoping we get it together!

stayanotherday · 16/11/2020 01:14

Yes, I've done the same.

grassisjeweled · 16/11/2020 01:20

It's fine. It rained all day here. And it's Sunday

Userzzz · 16/11/2020 01:35

Put down the phone. When I make an active effort to not touch my phone my day seems full and productive ( even when I’m not doing anything). Pick a book and read that when you’d usually scroll your phone.

rockingaroundthemulberrybush · 16/11/2020 05:28

Yes, I am usually very busy but haven't done a lot this past weekend. I could've done with doing lots of cleaning. I have bought some curtains, baked a loaf of bread, made some soup, been on 2 x walks and took my DS for a hot chocolate, but no real jobs done. The laundry is relatively up-to date but the cleaning will still be there next weekend!

Caeruleanblue · 16/11/2020 06:08

Getting stuff out the night before eg sewing machine, hobby stuff, cleaning stuff, even hoover - so everything is there ready to go, helps me.
Then you finish your breakfast or whatever and just get on with it, less chance of prevaricating or wondering what to do first.

SlothWithACloth · 16/11/2020 07:12

Putting my phone down is the key, isn’t it? Look at me, picking up my phone as soon as I get up Hmm
I’m just fed up of myself doing nothing at home except go on my phone. Such a waste of time.

I have the same problem...

I think for a Sunday its fine and good to have a day to do little. But my problem is its notnjust sunday!

doctorhamster · 16/11/2020 07:20

I'm the same op. If I'm at home I just sit on my arse and look at mumsnet. It's really not good.

Logoplanter · 16/11/2020 07:33

Same here too!

Did nothing over the weekend really, which would be fine if I'd made a conscious decision to chill out and relax. But I didn't. I sat on my phone and wasted it and then felt empty. It's my day off today and I'm going to try and be more productive...

charlieclown · 16/11/2020 07:35

I'm so bored by the monotony of life, I think it is whatever gets you through.

SlothWithACloth · 16/11/2020 07:55

@Logoplanter feeling empty is the perfect description. The opposite of feeling fulfilled for me.
I’m going to write down a few things that I have to do and a few things that I want to do and tick them all off by the end of the day.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 16/11/2020 08:14

I read an article recently which suggested writing down what you have done rather than a list to achieve. Having a to do list just makes you feel despondent if you don't do it.

I've started leaving my phone upstairs so I have to make an effort to go and get it if I want to use it. It makes me more aware of when I'm picking it up, a more conscious decision.

IvanTheDragon · 16/11/2020 08:45

I think we’re all a bit desperate for stimulation/novelty at the moment and scrolling on our phones provides an easy but low quality hit of that. Maybe treat yourself to an audiobook or stream some new music by someone you like while you try to do your productive things. And don’t feel guilty! Everyone gets stuck in a rut like that from time to time.

WhoUsedMyName · 16/11/2020 09:59

I love a list! Every morning write a list. It could have big things on or small things it really doesn't matter but don't stop till you've ticked it all off then you can sit on your phone without the guilt

This is exactly what I’ve done.

JovialNickname · 16/11/2020 15:14

I know this is going to sound really stupid and obvious, but the way to achieve these things is by doing them. I find I have most energy in the morning once I've just woken up, so will whizz round with the hoover, put some washing on, and do a (very short) exercise routine within an hour of waking. Then, even if I do nothing meaningful for the rest of the day, I have at least done those bits and feel better. Plus once you've rushed around for an hour, sometimes you're in the zone and want to do more! For me morning is best as you don't have time to think about it. You just start the day on autopilot Smile

Sparklingbrook · 16/11/2020 15:18

I have wasted my day too. Dentist this morning, bit of shopping at Boots then home.Good start.

But it fell apart at the point I sat down for lunch then ran out of steam. DS1 phoned and we had a 45 minute chat about nothing much. I did put a wash on and empty the dishwasher during the call.

Feels like it's getting dark now. Might put my PJs on and call it a day.

LindaEllen · 16/11/2020 15:32

I mean, that could describe pretty much any day for me since March. I've gained a lot of weight, I'm tired all the time (more so since having covid, though I try my best not to use that as an excuse) and winter always makes me feel crap .. so I'm just praying things get back to normal before next summer.

SlothWithACloth · 16/11/2020 16:01

@LindaEllen sorry you’ve had covid and are unwell. Hope things get back to normal soon.
Today has been better than yesterday. I agree that it’s just a matter of getting in with it. The thinking about it is usually much worse than just getting on with it.
The dark days do not help at all. I feel like the day is over already.
I got a few things ticked off my list including work.
I’m really going to try to do something else this evening rather than 5 hrs of being on my phone.
I’ve got some tv to watch with dcs, I might start watching The Crown as everyone is raving about it, and I have books to read.
I hope everyone else is getting on well. A regular thread to get things done would really help me.

I had a better day yesterday too. I agree with the pp that starting the day on a positive note helps, so I'd done the ironing (whilst watching TV), cleaned the bathrooms and got outside and got the leaves up all by 11 o'clock. It fell apart in the afternoon as I had a headache but even so, I'm pleased with what I did and I didn't feel like I'd wasted the day.

I'm working today but I'm going to try and get out for a run at lunchtime and not default to picking up my phone and wasting the break. I know I'll feel better if I do. Wish me luck!

SlothWithACloth · 17/11/2020 10:26

I’ve got a few things done already but still feel like I need to put more effort in putting down my phone. I didn’t get to watch tv or read a book and I really want to do those things.
I also need to exercise but I’m finding it hard.

TheNoodlesIncident · 17/11/2020 10:44

If you're not the sort who gets on with a list you'll maybe have to try another strategy, but I love a list. I make it achievable and not too extensive, as I don't want to risk getting overwhelmed and not being able to tackle any of it. I write To Do: at the top, which is my being told (it was easier when I was in work and HAD to do stuff) and then a few easy tasks interspersed with things I mustn't forget. So it looks like this:

Vac living room [delayed if the cat is sleeping in there]
Post letter/card for X [a nice one as the postbox isn't far and good change of scene and fresh air]
Clean out cat tray
Take out chicken fillets to defrost
Change Boy's bedding
Colours wash
Phone opticians
Wipe banister rail [how does it get so mucky?! We do wash our hands! Shock]

I tick them off as I've done them, and if I do another job like watering the plants while I'm waiting for the kettle to boil, I'll add "Water plants" and a tick, as it makes the list look like I'm getting loads of shizz done and that's a positive Grin

I also do something, then sit down and MN for a little while, then get up and do another job. So it's like a reward for doing the task. It's easier to fit in around making yet more tea and going to the loo, as to do those I'd be on my feet anyway.

I don't do this every day, just on the days I need more motivation. It's strangely satisfying to see a list of tasks all done with ticks and know that I have achieved something with my day...
