DH didn't realise black sheep were real!

We live in the country. (DH moved here from a village but he traveled in New Zealand at one point!!)

Out for a walk the other day and he mentioned about how some sheep have black heads but white wool. Somehow in the course of the conversation it turned out he'd never actually seen a black sheep. There were none in the fields around us so ended up walking a bit out of our way until I could find some to show him!

Is this a bit like not realising Narwhals are real!

I thought Transylvania was a made up place for years, until the Cheeky Girls turned up.

I thought Homeland Security was made up name for crime type US shows. Just like 555 is a made up number

I only realised that Elon Musk was a real person during the last lockdown.
I think I thought he was a character from a film.

I thought horse died if they laid down until a few years ago when I found out on here that they don't.
I was also in my 20's when I discovered glacé cherries are actually cherries and not just sweets to put on cakes.
Many other stupid stuff too I'm sure!

I didn’t realise Sea Horses were real until I visited an Aquarium 🤷🏻‍♂️

@Valmur

I keep a darker variety of sheep and have had people say this as well. Mind you, I have also had a student of my wife’s saying that he thought sheep and lambs were different species, so nothing surprises me!
Re sheep and lambs....Weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker on Would I lie to you (i think I've got the right clip).....

@whitianga it's not quite as straightforward as just size, but I don't expect the unhorsey to know all about that, and it's entirely understandable they think ponies are just small horses. It's the idea of them being baby horses I find amusing.

A colleague once returned from a weekend away and quizzed me about a field full of wild/ feral bulls and calves she'd seen. Turned out to be highland cattle. Wild/ feral because farmer's cows don't have long scruffy hair.

A friend's Mother had a herd of Black Welsh Mountain. Won loads of prizes.
