Any ideas please? Baby due in a couple of months and would like to get something for her to keep. Google is making my brain fry!

Personalised photo frame if you know the baby’s name. A nice generic frame if you don’t.
Money box - I’ve given some nice ones from Hannah Turner ceramics
Wooden height chart

I know this isn't what you asked, but could you just not get something practical. I mean keepsakes just in a box gathering dust, cluttering up someone's home.

There are some amazing wooden height charts that look like a giant ruler. You can get them personalised as well if you want.

I would have loved something like that rather than a generic gift of a silver bangle, frame, money box etc..... you end up with quite a few of those.

I hate keepsake gifts, they clutter and when the baby is an adult and moves out they are normally not interested.

The only times I know such a gift was a success was a necklace with a heart pendant, the girl started wearing it as a pre-teen and just exchange the chain when she got older.

My husband once gave a case of some alcohol (dont know what, assume wine) to be kept until child was 18.
I've given silver cuff links in the past. You could give some jewelry for a girl to be kept. It would have to be special though, so maybe more than you are willing to spend.
Perhaps a personalised baby blanket? Kids do like to hold on to those long after they have outgrown it.

A personalized lullaby featuring their voice as a baby. We still listen to ours years on. www.auraskymusic.com/product/babblesong/

Nice collection of books? I agree with not giving something that will never actually have a use

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/11/2020 11:54

A nice blanket with the baby's name embroidered at the corner. Pram sized. I kept a few of my little ones blankets in a box with their baby boxes, but it has the benefit of also having a few years of good use too.

A baby blanket embroidered with their name (my first years have nice ones)

We gave a lovely doll's tea set to DNeice as a christening present - was played with for years and her Mum's keeping it until she gets her own place.

Proper wooden Noah's ark for a nephew - his own daughter plays with it now.

Thanks everyone. Have got some practical things. Wanted something for her to have to keep though. Have taken on board points and suggestions, thank you 😀

I received 3 named baby blankets for DD. They're ok, but a bit of a waste.

I'd have loved more nice sets of books.

I always buy pictures like this with their name, DOB, weight etc. Then buy a frame elsewhere.

LittleBearPad · 14/11/2020 13:36

Even if they’ve picked a name don’t assume they won’t change it once the baby arrives. So be careful on personalised stuff

When DS was born someone bought us a commemorative coin set which I thought was quite nice, particularly as we can now add to the collection with a new coin each birthday. Similar to this, but a different character:

Make a time capsule - Buy lots of newspapers and magazines, sweets etc that will be his/hers when he turns 18
