It was only a couple of years ago I found out you were meant to cut an uncut loaf of bread upside down. It is so much easier!

Anyone else willing to share things?
Sometimes you think it's just common knowledge but I always love finding a more easy and sufficient way to do things! Grin

I recently bought 1st class stamps through Amazon. They were significantly cheaper than via the Post Office. I was shocked.

Coldhandscoldheart · 14/11/2020 06:15

@Mosaic123 Shock how does that work? Stamps have a face value don’t they?

If you want to know how to keep your wheelie bin clean without washing it out every usage. Use water from a water butt or when you have finished with washing up water in a bowl from the sink just tip the contents in the bin, you do not need very much water to keep them clean. we got this tip many years ago and it works every time!

DinosApple · 14/11/2020 07:13

Frozen ready chopped onions, save your eyes and time if you're a slow chopper like me.
£1 for 500g, my mum thought I was crazy but she's coming over to the dark side! (Lots of Indian cooking here.)

Tweezers - sand the ends with a nail file, they become so much more ‘grippy’

Cwenthryth · 14/11/2020 07:28

How do you cut bread upside down? If the bottom is flat and the top is curvy doesn’t it just wobble? Having said that my nana used to put a loaf standing up on its end and slice it across ways standing up whilst turning it around, if that makes sense. Perfect slices every time.

My life hack is keeping the roll of new bin bags in the bottom of the bin underneath the in-use bags. So when you empty the bin you just pull another one straight up. Simples.

SpillingTheTea · 14/11/2020 13:50

Love these!
Definitely trying a few!
The underneath side of the bread is softer than the top. So if you have a sharp bread knife you aren't applying any pressure at all. Grin

To freshen bed sheets I dilute lenor with warm water and spray!

Africa2go · 14/11/2020 13:58

From previous threads, storing duvet cover and sheet in the matching pillow case so its a complete set.

Each person has a separate day for laundry here so Child 1 Monday, Child 2 Tuesday etc so wash, dry, give back to child without any sorting.

The head of a Yale key fits in the coin slot on supermarket trollies so if you ever forget a £1 coin, you can use a key (obviously need to get it back when you return the trolley!!)

Sheknowsaboutme · 14/11/2020 13:58

Yes to frozen onions! Used them for years!

I buy cheap red wine and measure out 150 mls into freezer bags then freeze (well turns into slush) and them use for cooking bolognaise and chilli and to make gravy. Then use the expensive bottles to drink,

also handy for spraying cushions, curtains etc to give a fresh smell
ChristmasReindeer · 14/11/2020 14:07

People using diluted Lenor, after an influencer/some influencers shared this tip there were many warnings not to do it. Lenor have added a warning to their packaging. Google something like 'diluted lenor fire' and it'll explain it in full but basically it's a fire risk.

ChristmasReindeer · 14/11/2020 14:08

You're also not supposed to use it when washing children clothes, again if you Google that it'll tell you the whole thing properly.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 14/11/2020 14:11

Take photos of documents and letters and save them to cloud storage on your phone. Same with tickets, passports, backs of credit cards (in case of theft) etc. Accessible whenever you need them.

Omg how did I not know this!! I love cooking with alcohol but don't get through a bottle or box without it going off so it seemed like a waste. I realised I can use my silicone yorkie tin to freeze the wine it too so no plastic bags

your wheelie bin clean without washing it out every usage
People actually bother cleaning their wheelie bins?!?!?!

rottiemum88 · 14/11/2020 14:15

storing duvet cover and sheet in the matching pillow case so its a complete set

Why have I never done this?!

sueelleker · 14/11/2020 14:52

@DinosApple and @Sheknowsaboutme; I do the same with garlic-most supermarkets sell it chopped and frozen.
