Trying hard to support high welfare and UK butchers/farmers so can anyone recommend one that deliver? There seem to be loads of options just nice to know they are good before commiting Smile

Oh and our wonderful local butcher has retired so that's no longer an option Sad

I use Eat Great Meat

Xiaoxiong · 13/11/2020 11:09

Northernbeachbum · 13/11/2020 11:11

Farmison - very good quality and very good customer support

Balloondog · 13/11/2020 11:26

I've recently used Field and Flower and Fosse Meadows and liked both but felt Field and Flower had more cuts that suited our family.
I have a 20% discount code for anyone who wants to try a Field and Flower subscription box. Just let me know.

MumbleJunction · 13/11/2020 11:28

Whtat's the packaging like on these meat boxes? The one and only time I tried one it came in a huge styrofoam container :(

Northernbeachbum · 13/11/2020 11:30

@MumbleJunction we used one years ago and they used wool and recommended you saved it and used it to store things like xmas decs! It was fab!

I've used Field and Flower for ages - really happy with them. They deliver in cardboard with a foil inner and recyclable ice packs.

LazyFace · 13/11/2020 11:31

I don't know many grass fed butchers put there, I suspect they all eat meat.

(Sorry.. title reads funny to me.)

helloxhristmas · 13/11/2020 11:34

Do you not have any other local options? Getting something shipped from eg Scotland to Cornwall doesn't quite sit right with me .

My amazing butcher does deliver nationwide since CV. My mum uses Donald Russel and thinks they're great.

Northernbeachbum · 13/11/2020 13:02

@helloxhristmas not that I've found without going into the nearest city, not ideal to drag two young children in just for a trip to the butchers (partner works when its open). Its a good point though!! We do bulk buy and fill a huge chest freezer too with each order then dont worry for a while so hopefully that makes it a bit better

@lazyface, sorry thread was written in a hurry. Its badly worded I agree!!

Field and flowers seems to be one to look at then, thanks!

Waitrose deliver organic meat.

mamalovebird · 13/11/2020 13:10

Where are you in the Uk?

Sprig1 · 13/11/2020 13:13

There are lots of farmers who sell direct from the farm. Why don't you try and find one of those? We sell lamb boxes but are all sold out for this year. What area are you in? Someone may be able to recommend a supplier. Or just Google for farmers local to you. If you look up your local, county, smallholders page on Facebook that would be a great place to ask.

Northernbeachbum · 13/11/2020 20:44

Tried searching local farmers and found a few so going to buy bits from all to see where is best, thank you all!

Great. Enjoy!

Crankley · 14/11/2020 00:35

I buy a lot of ++++++++++my meat from here: www.turnerandgeorge.co.uk/ and have yet found anywhere to better it.

Crankley · 14/11/2020 00:36

no idea where the ++++ came from

JingsMahBucket · 14/11/2020 05:02

@Sprig1 are there any sites in the UK that list all farm shops, farm butchers, etc? I know there’s a small CSA website but that’s it. Please and thanks.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 14/11/2020 06:27

Thanks so much for these!

Scrowy · 14/11/2020 07:23

Facebook is a good place to start. Just type meat box 'you area' in the search and it should come up with local options and small suppliers to you.

It's a waste of time buying organic though for red meat. most beef and lamb in boxes in this country will be grass fed and high welfare by default because the people who do meat box schemes are rarely intensive farmers.

Sprig1 · 14/11/2020 18:02

There isn't a central list that I am aware of. I would agree that Facebook is a good place to start, or Google 'Dorset beef' or whatever it is you are after. Local farmers markets would also 3a good place to start.

Tessiot · 14/11/2020 18:04

Grass-fed butcher reminds me of the Jethro sketch.
