What positive things have happened for you in 2020?

I thought it would be nice to reflect on the positive that have happened in 2020.

For me... my great-nephew was born in June. I've not met him in person yet but I've seen him on zoom a few times.

I was also awarded a grant which enabled me to purchase a better electric wheelchair more suited to my needs.

How about you?

I’ve just been given a book contract Smile now just have to write the damn thing!

Frazzlefrazle · 13/11/2020 08:21

I passed my driving test a week before the first lock down.

LadyCatStark · 13/11/2020 08:21

We’ve moved house to a much bigger house and DS started at his amazing Grammar school.

BrandoraPaithwaite · 13/11/2020 08:22

Settled in to my new job and started to enjoy it.
Got a new baby nephew.
DC thriving in nursery.
My best friend finally got a puppy.
Got through lockdown relationship bumps with DP and feeling stronger than ever.
Most importantly, loved ones safe and well.

I was feeling very sad as I had to suspend my childcare business in March (I provide wraparound care). The house is so quiet without the little ones and all toys/furniture stored away.
Last week I had the best news EVER . My Son and daughter in law are returning home with my 3 Grandchildren after being in Australia for 3 years. I'm cock-a-hoop!!!.

I got married in July. We didnt need to change much as it was a very small wedding and in fact what we did change made it even better.
Great idea for a post OP!

I had Dd in 2018 after fifteen years of losses and infertility, that was me complete.

In April this year I realised I was pregnant, am now 36 weeks. Grinwow.

Newgirls · 13/11/2020 08:41

My dd got into a fab university (which will be more open at some point!)

I had a book come out

Swam in the sea

Hoppinggreen · 13/11/2020 08:44

I got a really good job
Due to Covid my freelance work dried up and I thought that as I had been SE for almost 15 years it would be really hard to find a job. I did but it was at a lower level than I am used to and the pay wasn’t great. After 4 months I was approached for a different position, which I got and it’s brilliant with great pay, loads of scope for progression and I work with lovely people and have a lot of autonomy. I would never have applied if my freelance work hadn’t disappeared.

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2020 08:47

New baby nephew arrived. 😃

Lorddenning1 · 13/11/2020 08:51

We have had our planning permission approved, so we can make our new family home bigger, I'm currently renting and hope to start the build early next year and for all of us to move in together early by summer.
We had 3 different architects and the first 2 said it wouldn't be possible and they would be denied, went with a recommendation and he said no problem, he completed the plans to what we wanted and it was approved, first time with no adjustments Smile

YogaLite · 13/11/2020 08:58

Lockdown kick-started my weight loss mostly through eating less, shifted 3 stone, couldn't be happier Halloween Smile

Chipsahoy · 13/11/2020 09:09

So lovely to see positive stories.
For me, I went back to therapy and dealt with some big stuff
Put my house up for sale! Not sold yet but we are relocating to the coast!

NellietheNumpty · 13/11/2020 09:09

I won the job Lottery. After an exhausting and brutal job hunt I got a permanent part time job with a decent employer. My DD also found a brilliant work placement and a new boyfriend.
This followed a period of separation from my DH. So a difficult year that is ending well.

NatalieH2220 · 13/11/2020 09:10

After 12m of TTC, I fell pregnant just before lockdown in March. DS2 is due in 10 days and I cannot wait!

LemonBreeland · 13/11/2020 09:13

I got a new job with a 45% pay rise. We also got a kitten as I am now working from home permanently, so the DC are over the moon, and he has really added to our lives.

dolphinpose · 13/11/2020 09:17

Lots of lovely things. DCs both got great A level grades and went off to uni. Despite lockdown they are both thriving there, making friends, having a good time and loving their courses.
DH and I have done a lot of badly needed work on the house which no longer looks like a student rental. We are getting on better than ever.
I self-published a book.
Lost 10 lbs in weight and started a proper fitness regime, still going strong.
During the tiny gap when we were allowed to go on holiday I crossed somewhere off my bucket list and climbed a mountain.
A project I ran has been nominated for an industry award.
And also had a brilliant work trip with colleagues outside of lockdown - a highlight of the year - so productive and in such a lovely place it felt like a holiday.
Genuinely relieved that Sunak's financial support has taken the edge off my money worries.

Lots of tough times too but I like to dwell on the good stuff.

I am SO looking forward to Christmas. Even if we can't see anyone, just the thought of having both DC home again is making me so happy.

Enko · 13/11/2020 09:22

Nice idea for a thread

Dh and I got "one last summer " with our 4 all at home due to lock down very aware that wont happen again

I passed my level 3 counselling course and started level

Dh got a small bonus from work

Dd1 got a first at her uni and got and started her first job as a nqt

Dd2 found a flat with 2 friends and is doing well with her uni course

Ds got his first choice uni

Dd3 moved to Denmark for 3 years to love with my sister doing an IB

D dog makes us all laugh daily with his shenanigans 🤣

OfUselessBooks · 13/11/2020 09:32

I lost my job...which at the time was the worst thing ever...however it has turned out brilliantly! I have a new job that fits in with childcare, we are moving closer to family and will be mortgage free as it's a much cheaper area. None of it would have happened if I hadn't been made redundant, plus now we have more savings as we didn't have to live off my redundancy money.

Fantastic!! My cousin went through 10 years to get her son. 2.5 years later her son was born. No fertility treatment.

I worked my arse off in the first few months of lockdown and got a pay rise. I’d never felt more valued and appreciated in my job.
I then applied for a position that I’d thought was out of my reach, not a massive step up but a step sideways, into a field I’m really interested in. I got it and I’m starting in January.

Sanch1 · 13/11/2020 10:07

I got married just before lockdown, 14th March. Got pregnant with DC3 the month after, due in Jan, and moved to our forever home. So its been busy but positive despite all the madness!

LouJ85 · 13/11/2020 10:36

I became pregnant with my second baby, currently 18 weeks pregnant and due April 2021 Smile

Champagneforeveryone · 13/11/2020 10:49

I changed role at work to one which I've wanted to do since I started. It is more money, but more importantly I really love what I do.

DS did well in his GCSE's and is thriving at 6th form.

DH has almost stopped drinking completely. There was a time when I thought his drinking would end our relationship. Now it's stronger than ever and his MH is greatly improved.

We got ChampagneCat, purely because we were not going away (we had planned to wait until 2021 due to holiday plans) She has changed our lives immeasurably (even if she's a pain in the arse Grin)

Conversely not going on holiday has allowed us to book a once in a lifetime trip for next summer, which will likely be our last family holiday before DS goes to uni. We only have to hope it's able to go ahead!
