Flu jab, feel like crap

Coincidence?

I had it last night. Sore arm since then, fair enough. But I woke up feeling like utter death. Achy, skin hurts all over, groggy, feel like I’m walking through treacle.

Sure it’s a coincidence and I’ve caught something else but I’ve only been to the shop briefly and to the pharmacist to have the jab.

I felt the same after I had mine.

I had 2 days of feeling exhausted and achy but felt fine again afterwards.

mindutopia · 11/11/2020 20:30

I also feel the same at the moment and I literally haven’t been anywhere. It’s probably coincidental as lots of people are sick at the moment (and chemist is probably a bit of a germ factory, even with the extra precautions). That said, some people do get strong immune reactions to jabs, so it could be that too (which is a good thing as it means it’s working).

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/11/2020 20:33

Glad you got better quickly Christopher.

Sorry you’re suffering mindutopia. I haven’t got a cold or any particular symptoms but I’m at the end of a heavy period, my toddler is a bundle of energy and this sore skin, tender muscles and exhaustion have levelled me. Hopefully it’s gone soon.

I had mine in October and felt absolutely fine afterwards, I didn't even have a sore arm.

Sarjest · 11/11/2020 21:31

Curb side, so did I. I’ll have one next year, too.

NameChange84 · 11/11/2020 21:39

I had zero reaction to the flu jab this year but felt awful after the pneumonia jab.

pointythings · 11/11/2020 21:46

Had mine Monday, my arm is still a bit achy but that's it. You wouldn't get that fast an immune response to the jab, it's more likely something you've had brewing for a while. There's some really nasty colds around.

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/11/2020 21:52

It’s the third time I’ve had it, haven’t had a sore arm or other symptoms before. The jab itself was painless, she was excellent.

My arm was tender for nearly a week after mine.

SantiagoSky · 11/11/2020 21:55

I had flu jars for the last 8 years and never any issues. This time my arm was sore the next day.

NameChange84 · 11/11/2020 21:55

You couldn’t have tipped into anaemia with this heavy period could you?

When my ferritin takes a sudden drop I feel
very flu like...aches, painful skin, cold and of course terrible fatigue and total exhaustion.

rorosemary · 11/11/2020 21:56

I have that side effect very pccasionally. I take the flu jab yearly and most years I'm fine, often my arm feels a little itchy or warm and a couple of times I felt tired and a little bit ill. The feeling mostly vanishes after a day, maybe two. You'll be fine.

user1471453601 · 11/11/2020 21:58

I'm nearly 70. I had my flu jab a couple of months ago.

I also have a couple of anti immune issues.

I was fine. A sore arm, as usual, but only for a day of so. Was a breeze

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/11/2020 22:02

Fair point NameChange84, I’m b12 deficient and on jabs for that and was anaemic when pregnant. Sure I’ll feel better tomorrow but we’ll see. DH had fly jab too and is fine.

The person who did mu jab commented that this year's was known for causing sore arm. It varies year to year. The one I had 2 years ago was really bad, last year I had no issues at all, this year's is moderately painful. Still feels a bit bruised today. But all in all it's a lot better than having flu - I've had full on flu 3 times in my life and it's no joke. (I'm 52)

Bluesheep8 · 12/11/2020 10:19

It's coincidence, you would have felt like that anyway. Plus I think expecting to feel ill is a big contributory factor. Just my opinion.

FlibblyFlobblyFloo · 12/11/2020 10:20

I had mine last week and have been completely unaffected.

mumtobabygilrl · 12/11/2020 10:32

It's not a live vaccine. Soreness at injection site is possible, other illness should be treated as a coincidence - so I was told
